Any way to get rid of the BBC's?

The bbcs seem to be sort of a "weak link" and I wondered if there's any way to get rid of them. I think I read that installing a SWM will eliminate them but is that the only way? SWM is fairly expensive and seems like overkill. Comments?

Any receiver that uses the bbc's either has to have the bbc's attached to get the new HD channels or use an SWM.
The new H23 receiver works without BBCs, so who knows.
The newer receivers are coming with BBC's built in... or you can get an SWM...
You can always just order more if they go up - they're free.

I think they are more made out to be the weak link. I have one replaced one BBC ever for failure. Out of hundreds of HD service calls.

Same here. I've replaced only a couple of confirmed bad ones. Quite a few more that fell into the suspect list, but not confirmed.
I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that the BBCs are the weakest link in the signal chain but just to get them out of the way from in back of the DVR, I put mine at the start of the cable run to the DVR (just after the multiswitch) instead of at the end of the cable run in back of the DVR.

Doing so requires first reversing the gender of the connectors on the BBC input and output before putting it in line between the multiswitch and the cable run to the DVR, otherwise the BBC will be facing the wrong way (the BBC output would be connected to the multiswitch output instead of the DVR input as it should be).

I put a barrel connector on the output (2” cable) end of the BBC which then goes to the start of the cable run to the DVR, and I connect the input of the BBC to the output of the multiswitch with a short RG6 cable with male F-connectors on each end.
