I was chosen for the 2nd round of beta testers for the Xbox live, but haven't accepted yet. I get to pay the same $49.95 that everyone else will pay on Nov 15, but I will get the same 12 months sub that starts on 11/15, so basically I get a month of two free until then. It looks like a memory card is included in the beta pack, and maybe a demo or two, that won't be a part of the retail package. So other than being one of the first to try the Xbox live out, there's not much incentive.

Any gamers out there beta testing the Xbox live?

Xbox Live will be released to the public on Nov 15, to coincide with the one year anniversary of the Xbox console. I can't imagine why that date would be more significant than beating Sony to the punch. I suppose it took longer than MS hoped? Imagine that!

I believe the demo game that will be launched with X-Box live is a remake of an older Dreamcast RC Racing game which was ok but nothing superb called Revolt from Akklaim. Future titles look really promising though.

JB, I would either:

1. Take advantage of it, or
2. Let me take advantage of it, :)

I wasn't chosen for it, oh well. You should read some of the whiny kids comments on the xbox.com message boards about not being chosen! They will sue Microsoft, etc. pretty funny stuff.

Seriously though JB, PM me if you really won't take advantage of it, my kids would be stoked.

Thanks.

Just curious, but what is the advantage of Xbox Live over the existing FREE XBoxGW ( http://www.xboxgw.com/ ). Assuming you have an internet-connected X86 computer able to get on the internet in Linux (and you can dual-boot using a tiny linux install), as far as I understand, you can already play online games for free?

Well, the XBox Live is a heck of a lot easier to set up. And according to the FAQ on XBoxGW, you have to know someone that also has XBoxGW, in order to link up with players. I can't imagine there being too many people using that. XBox Live will have mucho mas users, so you can play with people all over that you don't know. Xbox Live has a talk headset, so you can actually talk to who you are playing, either normal voice, or using one of the 'enhanced' voice filters.

And best of all....with XboxLive, you get to line Billg's pocket with more of your hard-earned cash! ;)

How much are you paying per month for your DSL connections and who are you using?
