Anyone in San Antonio area with OTA?

736 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  poppo
Not sure if it's related to today's problem, but I no longer get 5-2 OTA on either of my HR20s with OTA. I did a reset of the antenna setup and still just get 771. Can someone in the San Antonio area confirm whether 5-2 is working for them or not. Thanks.

I don't have OTA, but since this morning, I'm not getting any of my HD locals off the dish without severe pixelization.

Hi poppo,

We have 771 also on 5-2.
Thanks. Now the question is it the unit or the station.

Take the OTA antenna cable from the IRD, and go directly into the TV's tuner (assuming it is ATSC).

Scan for channels, using the TV's tuner.

If 5-2 appears on the TV, then the problem is D*'s.

If not, then it's the station.

Yeah, I can try that, although getting to the cable and the back of TV is a PITA.

If your OTA signals are strong, you may want to install a splitter and always feed OTA to both the IRD and the TV.

Then you can use the remote to switch inputs between antenna and D*.
I am also not getting 5-2. They might have turned it off temporarily.
Oops, my TV doesn't have a digital tuner, so I can't try it on that.

Seeing how others aren't getting it, I'm not going to worry about it.

Thanks to all who responded.

Join the crowd! Not sure how many other subscribers in San Antonio are experiencing the same issue. Ours started Sunday with only Channel 4, however, as of yesterday all the locals (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) are suffering from severe pixelization.

Contacted customer service last night and a check of the LNB showed great signals (82-91) for the HD local channels. The CSR couldn't figure it out so he opened a trouble ticket on the issue and someone is to come out to check the system by the 16th. The CSR indicated it was a receiver issue and might require a swapout! He futher indicated that his experience indicates the local channels will go out first when a receiver is going out!

You can believe that response if you want to -- it just doesn't pass a sanity check for me! Especially when other customers in the same location are suffering from the same issue. Also noticied all the locals are still in bad shape this morning (Tuesday). Currently looking at the SD local channels.

I have 3 HR20s. Two are set up for OTA and one is set up for the HD locals over the sat. I rarely use the one with the sat locals. However this morning I took a look at it and all of the HD locals were a mess. I then went to one of the units that I was using OTA, and turned on the sat locals in the guide. I got the same picture breakup and pixelation. So next, I called CS and they had me check the signals on the 103 sat which she said the locals were on. The signals looked good. She then offered to a free service call. I declined at the time since my in-laws just down the street are having a new dish and HD DVRs installed tomorrow. I was going to wait to see how theirs worked while the installer was there.

Anyway, after I hung up, mysteriously, the sat HD locals started working fine on all receivers. So I don't know if it was a coincidence, or she did something on her end, or if testing the signal on a different unit caused it to start working. <shrug>

BTW, I still have no OTA 5-2
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have monitored OTA channel 5-2 for several weeks. This used to be the Doppler Radar display but for whatever reason, it has been missing and the channel defaults to 5-1. I hope they bring it back since it helps me to know when the weather is likely to knock my DTV off the air.:D

Ditto on the pixelation for ALL the local channels for the past couple of days. SD channels are fine. I checked Dancing with the Stars via OTA (my wife was watching it ;) ) using the HD receiver built into my TV, and the signal was crystal clear.

Additionally, as many on this forum have noted, I too experienced multiple lockups with my HR20-700 requiring RBR. Glad to see this problem is pretty much solved.

Thanks to all those who have made this forum so informative. I switched from my HR10-250 a couple of years ago, and I have never looked back. I am very happy with both my HR20-700, and H20-100.

I believe we are experiencing a "smoking mirror" from DIRECTV in this case. The reason we are not seeing pixelization on the locals is they have replaced the HD signal with the SD signal on the locals. The SD signal has been good since this situation happened, only the HD signal channels have been bad. Wonder if anyone else in the San Antonio area is also encountering the same issues??? Or is it just us, which I hardly believe!
We had problems with the locals from DTV last night. OTA was fine.

Thanks. That is the info I was looking for (that it has been gone for a while). I too used it to check the weather, although it seemed that they kept changing the radar versions. It was funny because several times the computer crashed or whatever and you could see them logging back on and all of the stuff they were typing. Real secure system you got there KENS. :p
