Since they left DIRECTV today and went to DISH, i just want to gather some information so I can decide whether it's worth switching company or not.

-Are you happy with the quality?
-Are two dishes required in order to receive Jadeworld and American channels? Some said they need two. I'm not sure if that's for everyone or only people in certain locations.
-If you had a DIRECTV dish, did the installer take it down?

The channels are in free preview since about 2am ET this morning.
Anyone with a 118 dish can see them (channels 9985-88 or 626 on the Hopper).

Most of the country would be able to receive the channels with one dish ... the "Plus" dish from DISH.
Viewers with Eastern Arc setups would need a dish aimed at 118 added to their setup.

DISH has two arcs of channel offerings ... Eastern and Western. The satellite hosting international channels is in the middle of the western arc. There is not room for DISH to have their hundreds of international channels on both arcs.

DirecTV only has one arc.

I think D* customers need 2 dishes for International + regular English channels.

The International or WorldDirect dish (36") looks at the 95 orbital satellite, but I'm not sure if that one can pick up the other sats.

Their chinese channels were off the 119w satellite which only needs one 5 LNB dish.

The good news is that you have line of sight to 119 (DISH's "118" international satellite is practically at 119 anyways). If you are not interested in HD then you should be able to get by on one DISH picking up 110, 118 and 119.

If you want HD then you'll need 129 ... and for local HD you would need Eastern Arc (61.5+72+77) plus the separate 118 dish.

I am getting the Jade World channels...there are 5 Chinese language and one dubbed into Vietnamese. They are good quality, comparable to the other Chinese channels. I think Dish carries more Chinese channels than Direct. I have a two-dish setup in Florida. Hope you can get them.

Depends on the installer. They're not likely to use the mount that's there, though.

Aren't some of the locals on both arcs? I'm in Cleveland and you can have either arc (although they push the WA on you because the big-4 nets are HD only on EA - who needs the down-rezzed SD versions anyway?). Lots of WA dishes with 118 in my neighborhood (mostly for Polish channels).

Some. In Jersey you're either NY or Philly and both are HD on 61.5 only. SD is on 119/129.
