I recently canceled my DirecTV account, where I had two HR20-100, and one HR24-500. DTV only wants the HR24 back, and has said nothing about the HR20's.

What is the status on these now? Are they "Owned", or are they banned from ever being reactivated?

Can I sell them for re-use, or only for parts?

Thanks,
Richard.

I would hang onto them for at least a couple of months, just to make sure non-return fees don't show up on your account.

After that, it's up to you, but I doubt they would be listed as owned. You might have a friend call and ask if he could activate them (and give the RID numbers).

In the past six months I have deactivated two leased HR20-700s and DIRECTV has requested that they be returned. I was told that they did not want the first one back. I asked if it was now "owned" but they said it was still leased and I couldn't sell it. A few weeks later I received a recovery box for the first one. I'm glad I had not gotten rid of it.

In your case, I would not be surprised if they wanted your HR20-100s back. It might help to have a notation on your account that they do not want these back in case they try to bill you a non return fee for them.

They definitely would not be listed as "Owned" and I would get in writing the fact that Directv does not want them back and then I would hang onto them for several months to ensure that they don't bill you for not returning them.

When I deactivated my HR20-700 a few months back, I made 3 phone calls over 4 weeks for a recovery kit. The third call was my last whether it showed up or not. It finally did.

I think the recovery process is a little broken.

I had to replace 2 different hd dvr's and they said they would send a return box for one of them.Never got it and the second one that broke they never even asked for it back??The first one was 2 years ago and the sceond one was 3 months ago.
They are off my account so i did not worry about it.What gives??

I called today to try to return one of my HR20's. 5 DVR's and only 4 TV's. At first the rep was saying they would send out box fedex, return postage included, etc. etc.

But then she heard it was my HR20 from 2007. She then said, "Why don't you keep it in case one of your other DVR's breaks? We won't charge you for it while its deactivated."

Apparently they do not really want HR20's back anymore.

I deactivated an H21-200, an HR22-100, and an HR20-700 this year.

They only sent boxes for the H21-200 and the HR22-100.
Still have the HR20-700.
At deactivation time no mention was made of returning anything.
I guess I should follow up to avoid any nasty surprises.

That sounds like she MAY have put it on a "temporary hold" rather than actually removed it. Don't throw it away or sell it so fast because 6 months from now you may be in for a surprise.
