imo, it's long time overdue, hd of these apps would be very nice indeed.

Aren't the apps in TVapps done by voluntary work?
Sorry, that's not correct.
Most of the TVApps are done by DIRECTV staff. Only a few were created by third parties.
As for plans to update Apps or Active, I don't think they are the focus of developers at this point. There may be future development but I can't say when.
