Honestly me and the Mrs have been waiting patiently and its now past Nov and still nothing. Why cant they (DTV) provide some sort of an update on whats going on? Earl I know you always provide the best info but really DTV needs to release a statement explaining why they still haven't enabled the OTA tuners.

Also they never fixed the pink overtone issues with all of us with Onkyo receivers and apparently they have no indent to. So I went out and got a new 1080p with HDMI instead of DVI and we shall see if this is a solution as another poster claims.

Last week the CSR OTA script was changed regarding

"When will we get OTA?"

from

"By the end of this year"

to

"You will have OTA by December 1st."

OTA upgrades will start sooner because they need 1 week to cycle the upgrades through all of the HR20's. No more everyone in a night. Then they need another week for the units that missed the first time.

Capice?

Not necessarily. The last update only took 2 days to reach everyone. I don't know if they've activated enough units since the past update to goto a full week rollout duration.

sigh - not a priority for me - I have a tuner on my tv if I need it. Also we got the HR-20 for local HD - so why the rush for the OTA?

Why do you say its now past Nov ?
You started the thread November 7th.

Like someone else said - There's a lot of other postings about OTA.
Give the search function a try some time.

I guess you and the Mrs. will have to wait a while longer just like the rest of us.

I can't believe folks are still asking this question every 15 minutes on this board. I guess asking it more often will make it appear faster. I'm still shaking my head....

That would be inaccurate in many cases, unless by "we" you mean yourself and someone you know personally. :) D* hasn't launched MPEG4 HD LiL's in my market yet but I got the HR20 anyway because they will be launching my RSN in HD shortly. Since that will be MPEG4, I need the HR20 for that. But w/out OTA, I have to keep an HR10 beside it to receive local network HD. So OTA would be nice (especially since that's a pretty standard feature that's sort of strange to be waiting for). Besides that, from what I've read, the HD LiLs can be finicky in some markets, their PQ is inferior to OTA, and not all locals are carried by D* in every market. Some people NEED OTA to get even some of the major local networks. So for several reasons (though none of them may affect you), the sooner they enable OTA, the better for many people.

I also have a tuner on my TV, but that doesn't address recording.

In Memphis, D* doesn't/won't provide PBS (WKNO-DT), CW (WLMT-DT), or MNT (WPXX-DT) in HD. We also don't yet receive CBS (WREG-DT) in HD.

So I'm paying for Comcast just so I can:

1) Watch/record programming on PBS, CW, and MNT in HD until OTA is enabled on the HR-20
2) Watch/record programming on CBS in HD until OTA is enabled on the HR-20 or D* turns on the MPEG4 CBS-HD feed.

And seeing as The New York Times Company is selling off all its television stations, including the Memphis CBS affiliate, I have a feeling I'll be recording CBS-HD using the OTA capabilities of the HR-20 long before D* gets done with contract negotiations to enable the MPEG4 CBS-HD feed.

That's why it's important to me.

To record local DTV content not available through DirecTV, of course.

1. Several "served" markets have less than the promised four "bigs"
2. More than 100 HD markets have no HD LIL coverage from DirecTV
3. Where HD locals are offered, the remaining HD channels are not
4. Some television channels are offered only as OTA DTV subchannels

1. Better PQ with OTA then MPEG4.

OTA will be nice but useless for me unless I run a third cable to each of my boxes (which I don't see happening). Before I can use my OTA, I'll need FTM enabled.

Jeremy W,

Once OTA comes there will be flood of threads about it. People will be asking -

Why do I need a different antenna for OTA ?
I'm in city XYZ, my OTA channel X in HD looks choppy, anyone else in city XYZ having trouble ?
I didn't get the OTA software update yet ! When am I going to get it ??
Why can't I combine my OTA with DIRECTV using a Diplexor ?
My OTA quality is horrible !! The HR20 is a POS, blah, blah, blah.
What is OTA ?
Do I need a new antenna or will my bent up coat hanger work OK with the HR20 OTA input ?

Well, I can hardly wait for OTA. I bought the TV in late August to watch HD network shows, and the D* conned me into their HD package. (He even tried to sell me an antenna for OTA viewing -- I hope he gets hit by a bus.)

When I found out OTA was disabled, they tried to calm me down by offering me the network HD feeds from LA, and made it sound like the waivers would be quick and easy. Two months later, and all were denied except ABC -- the only ABC show I watch is Lost.

With any luck I'll soon be able to use my TV for the purpose it bought it.
