Arianespace, RadioShack Join SBCA

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association added Arianespace, the European launch services provider, and national electronics retailer RadioShack to its list of member companies.

RadioShack, which sells both DirecTV and EchoStar's DISH Network at its stores nationwide, is a big supporter of the SBCA's National Standards and Testing Program. Arianespace Inc. President Clay Mowry, who manages the U.S. affiliate of the company from Washington, D.C., will serve on the SBCA board of directors. Prior to joining Arianespace, Mowry headed the Satellite Industry Association, an organization tied to the SBCA that represents U.S. satellite manufacturers, service providers and equipment suppliers.

OTHER NOTES: StarBand, the high-speed, two-way satellite Internet provider, launched service for consumers and small office customers in Puerto Rico this week ... Samsung introduced the SIR-TS160, a set-top box offering HDTV programming and reception along with analog broadcasts and digital satellite programming from DirecTV.
