Arianespace signed three new contracts, one covering the launch of a new spacecraft for DirecTV while the second and third were inked for the future iPSTAR-1 and STAR ONE C1 satellites.

The flight for DirecTV-7S is scheduled for early fourth quarter 2003, Arianespace said. The bird will operate from the satellite TV company's orbital location at 119 degrees, and will deliver local channel service to additional markets and new services.

The Space Systems/Loral-built satellite will operate with 37 spot-beam transponders for regional broadcasting and seven super-high power beam transponders for national coverage.

Arianespace launched DirecTV-1, DirecTV-3 and DirecTV-4S for the satellite TV provider.
