I just had an HR 20 installed yesterday. I was pretty happy with everything they did but was a bit put off when, after they got very high signal strengths on the three main sats, they said they didn't need to fine tune the dish for the 2 new sats (99b and 103). In the installation manual for the dish it says the fine tuning is necessary to bring in the last two sats sufficiently, but I just defered to their judgement.
Once they left I checked the signal strengths on the receiver. The three main sats were very high (all transponders in the 90s, many high 90s). I also thought 99b looked good. Of the active transponders I had zeros on everything but transponders 4 and 6 where I had 99 and 97. But when I checked 103 I had (starting from transponder 1) 74, 28, 0, 35, 82, 42.
So I basically have two questions: 1) Do those signal strengths look okay for the two new sats and 2) if 103 doesn't look okay, do I need to bother with it now? The installers said that 99b was all I needed right now for my HD locals in Birmingham, AL. Does anyone know if this is true?
