I have a Dish VIP 222k. I have been getting audio drops for only a few seconds every half hour. I called dish and now they are sending a tech out and going to charge me $15. This seems like a software problem! I have the protection plan and it doesn't play well with me that I am being charged for this visit.
Does anyone nelse have an issue like this and what can I do if anything or is it an ongoing problem( audio drops)?

So to update..I canceled tech visit because why should I pay even this $15 for thier software problem. If I disconnect the power for 15 seconds plug back in then the audio drops go away for a day anyway. It just seems to me that CSR should have known this

This is not a known issue with this receiver. I haven't heard of a lot of our 222k receivers having this problem. If this continues, I can have a replacement sent to you. Please let me know. Thanks.

So after all this and help from Ray I got audio not to drop by connecting the optical directly from Samsung tv to amp. Connections are now HDMI from Dish to TV and optical from TV to amp instead of optical from Dish to amp.

Your right it is only stereo... well back to step one

Ok just got done with [email protected] dish..apparently the 222k does not work well when using both hdmi and optical connected to the receiver for audio so am going to try component for video and optical for audio should at least get 5.1 then.

What type of amp are you using? I have a Yamaha head unit with optical connection to my Hopper, switched the mode from Dolby Decode to 5CH stereo and haven't had the problem since. Could be a little dust in the port, bad cable, who knows?
Very likely not a problem a Dish technician will be able to fix. Maybe try Geek Squad or a home audio dealer if it persists?

The amp is a cheapo RCA RT2911 but it does the job now.I have HDMI from 222k to the Samsung 46C550 and optical from the tv to amp, then set amp to dolby digital plus and everything seems to be working fine after a couple hours Have had no audio drops. Hoping this is it since I now know the trouble is with the amp. If this doesn't work I will be looking for Denon AVR-1312

Hi,
had the same problem with my 222k, the hook up you have now is the work-around, I have a old denon, [ yes, it downscaled to stereo] but I have it hooked up to some decent speakers, so it does the job. I think I will try wirenut's hook up just for the heck of it even tho he has a different reciever.

If you have access to another reciever, I would try that first, or, at least make sure you can return what ever you buy if it doesn't do what you want.
