I've had these problems in LA all along as well, more on KNBC (4) than any other. It was happening with regularity during the 7:00 hour, and I confirmed several times (by watching the OTA feed, PIP) that the problem was coming from the broadcaster. I'm not saying that every dropout was from the broadcaster, but many were.
It seems to me (just by observation) that there has been some work done at KNBC since they have toned down some of the excessive sharpening in their SD-to-HD upconverted programs. I've also noticed fewer dropouts since early December during the 7:00 hour.
However, I noticed several dropouts during the 12/24 broadcast of "It's a Wonderful Life", pretty much at the end of every commercial break in the 8:00 and 9:00 hours. That's got to be the broadcaster's fault.
Slightly off topic: Has anyone else noticed that KTLA (MPEG-4 feed channel 5, as well as OTA 5-1 and 5-5) has much more bass than all the other channels?
