B-Band Converters

This afternoon I'm going to have my 5LNB dish installed. I just got my HR20. Do I need to hook up the B-Band cables? I just saw a few posts where some people said removing them helped certain problems.

Also, until the installer arrives, I have a 3LNB dish hooked up. Can I start setting up the HR20, activate it, etc.? I just won't get the HD locals until the 5LNB is in, right?

If you are having weak signals on any sats, removing the BBC's can seem to help. Also, since the BBCs have a few inches of cable run, make sure they are not crimped. Nevertheless, you will need them for MP4 broadcast, so don't take them out (as you might just lose them). If removing them clears up a signal problem, you need a tech to come out and check your setup. In my case, I could only watch DiscoveryHD, HDNet, and one other, I forget which, by removing the BBC's because the 119 was not working right. This did not solve the problem, just masked it. The tech came out and replaced the side LNB's 4 &5, and it has received perfectly since.
Mine are on and have never had a problem with the HR20-700S yet.
I had my HR20 hooked up to my single LNB dish for a week or so before I went outside and installed the AT9 dish myself.

The B-BAND Converters are not needed at this time! You will need them "in the future" for Ka signals!

Take a look at this thread for additional info: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=64684&highlight=b+band+convertors

When I posted the same question about a month ago, I was told they were necessary for MP4 signals. I just passed it along...
May be a silly question, But will the HR10-250 get Mpeg4 with the B band converters hooked up to it?

No. The HR10-250 does not have MPEG4 hardware, so it will never be able to receive those channels.

Are the cities that are currently getting MPEG4 locals receiving this via a Ku downlink?

No they are receiving it via Ka, but the Ka spectrum will expand when the new SATs are launched next year.

OK then dumb question (since the installers are still here hooking my HR20 up):

Will the MPEG4 locals being delivered via Ka still work if I remove the BBC?

Yes, but don't lose those B-Band converters
