Here is the problem I am having: I have read on other posts that many people are getting the "Searching For Satellite On Tuner 1 and/or 2". This has been happening to me for several months now. It just appears out of nowhere and then it would fix itself for reasons unknown. Normally, I would have to reset the receiver, HR21-700 and most of the time it went away. I happened to clean behind my receiver today and the receiver showed "Searching For Satellite Signal On Tuner 2". I would squeez one of the B-Band Converters and it would fix the problem. I took both of them off, checked the connections and put them back. It now only works if I happen to position the B-Band Converter in a certain position. But here is what's weird: I can swap either converter to tuner one and two, but the receiver always shows that tuner #2 is not working. I try and plug only one converter into tuner #2 and it will not work, tuner #1 does, no matter what converter I use. I finally had to unplug the receiver and now it's working fine. Directv is sending me two converters to try and fix the problem. All other tests show both tuners and transponders to be working and the numbers are all in the high 90's. Could it be a bad converter or a bad tuner in the HR21-700.

1. Since the problem stays on tuner 2 and does not follow the cable/b-band converter, that points to the receiver as being the problem.

2. Since it comes and goes when you reposition the cable, it almost sounds like it is just the connector on the box, rather than the tuner itself. However, either way, it is not something tha you can replace. If it becomes too problematic, you might have to look at having DirecTV replace the receiver.

I was thinking on those lines as well. Why is the receiver working after a reboot? If it was a bad converter, that would not fix the problem. I hope I'm wrong though, I would hate to lose all of my recordings if I need a new receiver. This receiver has done this since day one, so it very well could be something wrong inside the HR21-700.
