Bad picture on one channel

1072 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Grentz
I have a Hughes DirecTV/TIVO combo receiver/DVR (standard definition). It's always worked well. Currently, however, I get a bad picture on one local channel, which happens to be the main local channel I watch (PBS). The picture will suddenly snap out of focus, and become all fuzzy....then a minute later will snap back into focus and look fine. This keeps up, making any program difficult to watch. This would seem to be a TV problem rather than a DirecTV problem, except that this problem NEVER occurs on any other channel. Only this one channel. Which suggests that the problem is the signal coming into the TV, not the TV itself.

What can be done? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the problem as described would have to be with the local station itself.

I would check with others who get the channel from other sources (cable, OTA, etc.) and see if it happens with them.

If not, it could be a problem in the way DirecTV is picking up or relaying the signal. Some local stations just are not very good from the satellite.

I should have added that this is a new problem--I've had this receiver for years (obviously!) and this channel always came in fine. I've now seen a few other posts from DirecTV subscribrers in the SF BayArea who have the same problem with this same channel. So it's not my equipment either.

I don't think that folks with cable or OTA have this problem. So it sounds to me like a DirecTV issue. But how do I get them to do something about it? That's the question.

I think the problem has now been solved...picture now seems fine, although maybe more time needed to be sure. Apparently whoever it was, the station or D, they dealt with it.
Glad it got fixed.

Directv has different ways of relaying the locals from the local stations to their services/satellites and sometimes there can be a hickup in the link so to speak.
