Bad sound on KTLA today?

1149 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  cg7879
All morning during the Morning Show the audio on KTLA sounded like it was "gargling" every few seconds; I haven't checked yet to see if it's still doing that.

Anyone else?

I have directv and i always have problems with that channel. intresting that your with dish and also have problems. I guess that means the probleme are with KTLA and not directv like i always thought!
What are the problems you've had with D*?

I watch the three hours of the Morning Show daily and today's the first day they've had audio issues.
The only local LA channel with worse technical staff is KCOP Channel 13, still number one in technical screw-ups running for several decades. Feel the pride :).

Channel 5 can be a technician's joke. The problems are especially bad during the Morning Show because it is live and often far too complex for the folks there. They have far more technical screw-ups on the fly. Channel 5 doesn't pay as high a salary compared to the big network O&O local channels--for any of its staff in front of or behind the camera. Yet channel 5 KTLA gets good ratings and is the biggest money maker for Tribune. No, not just the biggest money maker among their TV stations. It is the biggest money maker of ALL of Tribune's holdings. The budget can be increased to bring things up to high standards at 5 , but they are CHEAP at Tribune, and KTLA has always been CHEAP back to the days when Gene Autry owned the station (great ratings back then, too) and later sold it to Tribune. MY goodness. Even KCET seems more professional than channel 5 at times.

Every night we watch the KTLA 10 pm news on Dish Network.
(actually watching it now which made be search the boards to see if this has been reported)
For the past few days the audio has had issues, it is garbled and seems to fade in and out.

Kinda reminds me of the old 16mm films from grade school when the audio would be garbled.

It happens with the news cast as well as the commercials. It is, at times, not worth listening due to the bad audio.

I have a 501 box and a 508 box and the sound is the same on both of them.
If it keeps up I will attempt to call dish to see if they can fix it.

Not only that. KCOP is the only LA station in HD that shows absolutely no HD. Even the Angel games are in SD on KCOP HD.

FYI, I have Direct so we get KCOP HD as well as OTA (if you want to call it HD)...
Still ongoing this morning, so please call. :(

(Really, doesn't anyone in LA watch KTLA as a local via DISH and complain? The last time KTLA had issues on DISH it took weeks to resolve.)

DISH tech support advised others hearing this to call in and report it as the more reports they get, the higher the issue is on their queue…)

That's the perfect description!

I hear it exactly the same way on two 722s and a 211.
I was going to call tonight to report the bad sound to dish.

I turned it to KTLA about 9:30pm when one tree hill was on, the sound was good.
Hmmm..

ok, then I waited for the news at 10.

and the sound is good!

No need to call, looks like it was fixed at Dish or KTLA.

Thanks to who ever fixed this!!!

My wife's favorite news is now watchable again, lets hope for a good car chase tonight...

Looking at my recording of the Morning Show, it looks like it got fixed around 9:45 AM Pacific.

I'm not sure who was doing it, but there were points where the audio went to a test tone for about five or six seconds, which showed the problem clearly the first couple times they did it, and showed it was gone when they repeated the tone later.

The only question is whether it was on DISH's end or KTLA's.

I'm just thrilled it's fixed.
sounds like an issue with the channel itself. I did happen to notice reports of issues with KTLA today. Good advice here though. If more people call about a given issue the quicker engineering can come up with a fix. However, please do NOT do what many people do and call to report a known issue. If there is a crawl running saying saying we are aware of the issue and not to call then please do not call. We dish reps are busy enough as it is.
