I've been having issues with my install since I moved into our new build home about 6 months ago. The DirecTV install guy was at the house for over 6 hours and couldn't figure out why 2 of the boxes where getting errors when you run the self-test. He claimed the wiring to those boxes was bad. I didn't think that was the likely cause but I was getting fed up with the guy being at the house so long so I sent him on his way. The boxes with the errors worked but he warned me that some channels may not come in. I had the wiring subcontractor come out and they tested every RG6 run. Everything tested out fine so I began troubleshooting myself.
My setup is a SWM16 that connects to 2 SWS-8 green labeled MRV compatible splitters. Power is connected to the SWM16 (I've also tried it connected to SWM1...made no difference). Once I began my own troubleshooting I quickly realized all the boxes that were getting errors were on SWM2 splitter. As a quick fix I moved all the most used boxes (3 HR24s and 1 HR23) to the SWM1 splitter. They all work fine. I have a H21 connected to the SWM2 splitter. This is the box that always tests out with an error on tuner 1. The rest of the boxes test out fine. If I connect the H21 to the SWM1 splitter it tests out fine. If I move one of the DVRs to the SWM2 splitter it tests with errors. At this point I was hoping it was just a bad splitter or cable. I replaced the cable from the SWM16 to the SWM2 splitter. No change. I then replaced the SWS-8 splitter with a spare SWS-4 splitter I had. No change. At this point I'm assuming I have a bad SWM16. The chances that I have 2 bad splitters or 2 bad RG6 cables seems extremely remote. Have I missed anything obvious to try?
