Hello. I currently have an 8 tuner limit and have an HR30, HR22 and H23. I know the HR30 uses 5 tuners, and the HR22 uses 2, so thats 7 right there, do HD receivers count as tuners or just DVRs? I would like to add another HD receiver without having to upgrade my switch to 16. Is that possible or no? Thanks for any information!

You probably mean an HR34. Yes HD receivers count as a tuner, so you are currently at your maximum allowed of 8.

To grow beyond that, you need to change the LNB on the dish and use an external SWM16 multiswitch.

I think you mean HR34, not HR30.

Yes a regular receiver uses a tuner slot.
So you have 8 and another receiver means a SWM16.

That said, you can reset your HR22 to use only one tuner by rerunning Sat setup.
Its also been reported that the HR34 will automatically set itself to less tuners to adapt the system. I haven't tried this some someone else may chime in.
