I just got certified to do Wild Blue installations, and am in training, and gathering all necessary tools/supplies, and even though this is the Directv section, the same rule of thumb applies, as far as connectors go.

I currently own this compression tool
http://www.homedepot.com/buy/electr...tor-compression-tool-30-603.html#.UGZ1QlH9zW4
and have used the PPC EX6XL connectors with it, and it works great.

The guy that is training me prefers the PCT TRS-6 connectors, which are a bit shorter than the EX6XL connectors, so the first time I tried the PCT connector in my compression tool, it didn't do what it was supposed to do, and pulled right off the cable. The guy training me said I just needed to adjust the travel on my compression tool, so I did that, leaving just enough room for the PCT connector to fit in the tool, and tried to compress it, and it broke in half. I know the PCT has a different way of sealing than the PPC, but it's basically the same principle, correct?

I'm wondering if there is something simple I'm missing, or if maybe the Ideal compression tool just doesn't work that well with the PCT connectors.

I could just get this tool
http://www.pctstore.com/F_connector_tool_cable_crimper_PCTRHCTAS_p/pctrhctas.htm
but I'm trying to watch the spending...if I can.

Any advice/input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I see it as same trend for power supplies for each model of smartphone ... :(
Now the connector's manufacturer shamelessly making it unique to milk more money for proprietary tool.

It should be standardized as did for many things like RG-9 cable, damn !

My wallet would skip the PCT expenses or your employer (if he insist on the model) should provide such tool for you.

I know what you mean, but in this case....I don't see it as a proprietary thing, but something I'm doing a little wrong, as far as adjusting the tool, or at least I hope so.

Unless you plan on using the TRS-6 connectors for your installations, I wouldn't worry about it. Personally, I prefer the EX6XL over the TRS-6.

That being said, most installers I know use either the Apica AP-CT-AS or the PPC VT200. I think the VT200 is a nicer tool and what I will buy next time around. Right now I'm using a Platinum Tools SealSmart II. I'm not sure it could stand up to constant use.

Yeah, those both look like a better compression tool than the one I have
http://www.idealindustries.com/prod...div=2&l1=tools&l2=compression_tools&l3=30-603
not that mine is junk......just those both look a little better.

I have a bag of PPC CMP6 connector's too......I'd bet those are considered more than acceptable too.

Also, the PPC VT200 is supposed to work well with the PV6UE-05 connectors as well, which someone mentioned as being the connectors they prefer.
