The two big effects of this for Dish Network and its customers are:
A) The big one... There has been talk that Liberty intedended to re-attempt a merger with Dish Network... citing increased competition from telco's in the TV delivery market and cable having a strong competitive edge with their triple play offerings that Dish/DirecTV can't compete with without a merger. This will be interesting to see how it plays out.
B) No so big... but interesting nonetheless. News corp no longer is a competitor AND a service provider to Dish. So, rumors that channel carriage negotiations were being held up by DirecTV in order to gain a competive edge are no longer there. Perhaps this will speed up the delivery of HD RSN's, as most of them are owned by News Corp.
Think of how many TPs and bandwith would be available all of the sudden if that were to occur!!! However, I do not believe Dish and E* are interchangeable, so they would have to swap out all of the equipment of one provider or another (or alternativly, slowly phase it out with only new stations being added to one system)...
