I may have something screwed up, but why does the Big Ten Network channel assignments skip from 439 to 441? They seem to skip the 440 map down. I had to rummage all over to find the Michigan Game on 9501 (or whatever the channel was).

Is it my mistake or did dish completely skip the 440 map down and go right to the 441 map down for Big Ten ALT stations?

Do you have an HD receiver? If so the "Alt" BTN feeds in HD are only in the 9500's. Originally they did map down to 440's but one day they disappeared.

Since I'm not usually home at gametime I can only speculate that any mapping to these HD alt occur only at the time of the games and then disappear afterwords. But the "reservation" for the BTN Alt HD channels remain in the 9500's.

439 to 441 are Sports Alternates, Big Ten Alternates are 5440 to 5443, and the Big Ten HD Alternates are 9501-9504. You would have to get hold of someone at Dish Network to get any answers as to why channel numbers are skipped or are not grouped with similar channels.

Interestingly enough, 441, 442, and 443 say something like ALT10 HD. Weird stuff.
ALT 10 HD is where you would see the BTN alt games in HD, right next to their SD counterparts on the same channel number! In reality both are mapped down form the channel numbers garys posted.

What is weird is that the "real" channel numbers for BTN SD 5440-5443 show up right after my "real' channel number HD locals (I mean the 4 digit channel numbers, not the virtural channel numbers). You would think that the HD alt channels, if anything would be next in the guide, but no. Also the "real" HD locals split up the audio channels where previously Muzak and Sirius were together.

The E* engineering dept shuold seriously rethink their channel number assignments.

I understand how the mapping works, that's why I find it interesting there is no 440, SD or HD.

I guess my point was, they don't have the first alternate at 440. In fact, the first alternate (the one usually used) is not mapped down to 440. That's what I find most interesting.
