Is it just me or does Big Ten Network look like crap in MPG-4 on Ch. 610? It used to be one of the better HD stations but everytime I pass the station and they're showing a replay of a 2007 game, originally broacast in HD, it looks terrible, all craggly with upconversion type smearing.

Have I just stumbled upon them while they were showing upconverted crap? I know they usually show original aspect ratio, they never used stretch-0-vision when they were on Ch. 220.

I was watching Big Ten HD last night and was having macro blocking. The program was in HD and looks nothing like it used to when it was on 220.

I had thought that the PQ for BTN had gone down hill prior to the move to 610. It has always been an MPEG4 channel on DirecTV since its launch.

I assume the issue is with BTN themselves but I could not swear to it as I have no other source for BTN.

During the football and basketball seasons (with the other sports as well), BTN was one of the best HD sources I had.

I have noticed that the replays of games on BTN are much lower PQ than the live events. Not sure why.

The Big Ten Network is having problems with games originally broadcasted on ESPNHD and ABCHD. Games originally broadcast on the Big Ten Network look fine.

I don't know whether the problem is the fault of the Big Ten Network or with the recording they are using. Hopefully it will be fixed.

There should be no problems with live events this year.

Maybe it's cause ABC/ESPN is 720p & BTN is 1080i?

Well I guess if they are ESPN or ABC broadcasts that would explain the lousy PQ.

I disagree, I've watched some of these games live on ESPN/ABC and then the later replays on BTN and the live events were stellar in quality.

Right now I'm looking at the 1993 Rose Bowl Game and it has pillar bars. I'm wondering if you're catching the SD version for some reason.
So, I'm NOT nuts! Can I print out this page and show it to my parole officer?

No, it was definitely the HD BTN, and as everyone else has confirmed, the PQ is kinda raggy on replays of HD broadcasts. I finally caught a live broadcast last night, PQ was smooth, but not very bright. Could have been the lighting at the outdoor location (Perdue pre-season workout, I think).

I disagree but everyone's eyes and systems are different. Did you watch on D*? I think this year will be a lot better with D* using MPEG 4
No, I watch my locals via OTA. D* doesn't have a KA spot beam pointed at Lansing yet.
