Billing question?

873 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Amerikes
I just bought a DVR 21-100 from Best Buy, and called Directv and it activated approximately one week ago.....

My question: Is the $5.99 for the DVR monthly service in addition to the receiver leasing of $4.99 for that same DVR, for a total of $10.98.

Or, had I wrongly concluded that the former H-20 receiver was $4.99, and that the DVR would be an additional $1.00 for a total of $5.99. I have the sneaking feeling, that the $10.98, is the total for the DVR plus monthly lease........

Easiest way to think of it is this ...

$5.99 "DVR Fee" is for the DVR SERVICE - that's once per account.

$4.99 "Lease Fee" is for the HARDWARE. It's charged for the 2nd and subsequent receivers in your account.

So, for example, say you have 4 DVR's.

That would be:
$5.99 - DVR Fee
$0.00 - First Receiver is free
$4.99 - 2nd Receiver Lease Fee
$4.99 - 3rd Receiver Lease Fee
$4.99 - 4th Receiver Lease Fee
=====
$20.96/month

Now, let's say you have 1 DVR, and 3 "regular" receivers (non-DVR)
That would be:
$5.99 - DVR Fee
$0.00 - First Receiver is free
$4.99 - 2nd Receiver Lease Fee
$4.99 - 3rd Receiver Lease Fee
$4.99 - 4th Receiver Lease Fee
=====
$20.96/month

Same thing. So long as there's at least one DVR on your account, it makes no difference what "mix" of receivers you have -- monthly cost is the same. So why not replace all of those non-DVRs with DVRs???

If nothing else, I see no reason to have standard receivers anymore - you can buy a used DirecTiVo device for dirt cheap, if DirecTV doesn't give you a SD DVR free!
