I live in Maryland, about 50 miles from Baltimore. Does anyone know if there is a place where I can rent a Birdog Ultra Meter?

I saw a Birdog at a pawn shop just a couple years ago.

Didn't even have the USB update port, and they wanted $350.

Figured it was worth $50, if that, and they wouldn't want to go much under $250.

I did tell the counter guy he had a problem there.

As for rental, that is getting pretty far out there. Wish the OP luck, but I suspect his best shot might be to offer the DirecTV guy working across the street 2 houses down next Thursday a Pepsi and a fresh piece of peach pie and see what happens.

. but I (anybody) can do one without, and can do so in less time than with a meter... if you take into account the time it takes to drive to/from the rental location.

I was starting to agree with you until you said what I colored in blue. by the time you get, plug in, set up the TV and receiver, I had already aligned the dish probably 20 times with my AIM meter. it would be more if it wasn't because the darn AIM meter takes so long to boot up.. :smoking:

So why not take into a count the time it takes to drive to the tail gate place set up the dish and TV and what not when comparing against the tine it takes the OP to get the meter. alignment times starts when you are ready to align the dish whether using a meter or a TV. and to say it takes less time using some other method than a meter, well I just dont agree with that.

What we can agree on is that if the TS is doing this just one time, (or a few for that matter) is not worth the money to rent or buy a meter as you can use the receiver albeit less convenient and with more effort
