On Friday, the Satellite Industry Association released its annual Satellite Industry Indicators Survey. And despite the continuing turmoil in the telecommunications industry, the SIA study shows that the business fared very well in 2001.

The SIA study said the satellite services segment remains the largest and fastest growing of the industry, generating $46.4 billion in revenue - an 18 percent increase when compared to 2000. SIA said $7.2 billion of service revenues were from transponder leasing by satellite operators and $39.2 billion of revenues were from subscription satellite services.

The manufacture of satellite-related ground equipment in 2001 accounted for $19.6 billion of the global industry's revenue - an increase of 12 percent over 2000 revenue. Satellite manufacturing in the United States, including payments to satellite prime contractors and their subcontractors, accounted for $5.5 billion of the $14.1 billion in global revenue, SIA said.

The U.S. launch services industry generated $1.7 billion in 2001, accounting for roughly 34 percent of global launch revenues, SIA said.

What "turmoil" is SkyReport referring to???? We've been getting uninterrupted service for 5 years now. Of course the business is still growing, in the US Dish Network and DirecTV have a great product to sell. Lots of channels, clear picture, low prices, easy to use, lots of discounts and promotions, cutting edge features on receivers.

The sky is falling, there's a possible merger afoot. The sky is falling, even in these times of turmoil, cable still can't beat DBS.

How about still growing since there is no turmoil.....
