Black / Gray color bars

We recently upgraded to the HR20. It seems very slow and occasionally locks up. Hopefully this is a software issue? Can someone tell me if there is a fix in the next software upgrade for changing the screen display (bars above and below the picture) from gray to black in the widescreen format. When I go through the setup process and change it to black, it does nothing.
