I have had Direct TV for only a month or so now. I have had a nightmare with the install and almost canceled the first week. The reason I didn't is the picture quality. Smashes comcast in my local area.

As a long time World of Warcraft player (actually my side business!) I was excited to see the annual convention would be held on PPV. Even more excited to see the extra in-game item they mail to you if you order the PPV.

What a bust. It was a two day event. During the first day the feed cut out numerous times, even having to be acknowledged by the on air hosts. The sound was horrible, with the wrong audio feeds constantly being pumped into the live stream at the wrong times. Twice during the broadcast you can hear producers speaking into the live stream using vulgar language and insulting comments about on air people. Then to top it off, on day 1 they cut off the feed before the days events where over!

Another big gripe I have is with the panels. They had hour + long discussion seminars with the game developers on a myriad of topics. They would play 30 min worth and then cut away to the same HD trailers and clips they played at least 10 times already!

I am going to think long and hard about ordering any events in the future. While I love the depth of channels and picture quality at this point I do not recommend DTV to anyone!

Not to be negative but are the complaints you listed DirecTv's fault or Blizzard's? It seems that if the live feed is bad, that it would hardly be DirecTv's fault for the quality of the broadcast, especially if you could hear producers talking etc. Actually I have found that wowinsider has the best scoop on the whole thing. At least in my opinion. I spent the weekend downloading the 1.17gb patches on my two laptops to get ready for tomorrow!!

Well my $40 goes to Direct TV and they sold it to me so it IS a D* problem.
Thats like blaming DirecTv because MTVHD doesnt have any HD content. They only broadcast what they are given.

Apples and Oranges.

Again this is a Direct TV produced event. The Direct logo was all over everything including the stages and mics. Also I am not spending $40 for 2 days of MTV.

All in all it was a piss poor broadcast that really missed the mark when it could have been great.

Quick note, it bugs me how people defend Direct TV so much. I mean it is a GREAT product but I have had some issues with it.

When I had problems with the install Direct TV even said it was horrible and wrong and gave me a ton of credits. People here said its not D's fault for hiring and sending people to damage my home.

That sounds just as bad as midnight money madness was for the first few days.

This does sound like a last minute thing and DTV is much better then others and you can't judge them on one PPV

I've had D* for years and never had major problems. Like everyone said, this was a last minute operation. They did have scheduling problems, since they had to give all three games equal time.

It was pretty irritating the first day. It was very rare for D* to mess something up this much. The second day was a lot better; the audio and video didn't have all the problems.

$200+ for a polar bear to ride in a video game?
/rofl that is cheap, people play hundreds of dollars for virtual toys and characters on game, even though it is again the terms of service for the games. Surprised that ebay left the sale displays up since they tend to side with the publishers of the game and yank them due to copyright infringement.

They cant in this case. You are selling the plastic card they mail to you. Its an actual item you can hold in your hand. If it were just the code or an in game item like 'currency' then they would pull it.

I can sell the cards all day. I cannot sell my account log in information anymore.

I have no problems with that, but that wasn't the issue. Who ever the producers where of this event should be sent back to Cable Access.

If you cut out the HD trailers they played once an hour and stopped repeating the same 5 min 'behind the scenes footage' that was not live, then they would have had a few hours to show the panals or game tournaments.

Even on Day 1 they were advertising the tournaments to be shown live, when they only showed replay snippets of one of them. Boooo

been playing these games since 1999 - sale of ingame virtual items are prohibited by the games EULA and terms of service. You do not own the virtual item nor the character, it is still property of Blizzard or whomever publishes the game. Ebay has pulled promo items for the other games that are on the market - LOTR, EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard SOH, Planetside, Matrix Online, etc.

I think everyone knows this, This is why people use wordage like, I'm selling the time invested in this account, etc etc. Nonetheless its still illegal as stated.

btw OP, did you get your in game mount? My buddy ordered the event, complained about as you have, same issues. To top it off he never got his in game mount. He wasn't pleased.

Also I'm seeing some condescending remarks, people need to realize that MMORPG's are a hobby like anything else. Some people go bowling, some throw darts every night, Some people raid Gruul's Lair. Don't knock on something because you particularly think its a waste of time. ;)
