BlizzCon 2008 may be sold out already, but you'll have an opportunity to watch the event as it happens, as long as you're a DirecTV subscriber, and you're willing to fork over $39.95 for the pay per view package.

BlizzCon 2008 happens on October 10 - 11, 2008 in Anaheim, Calif. It's Blizzard Entertainment's annual gathering of fans to celebrate the company's popular Mac and PC computer games, including World of Warcraft and forthcoming products like StarCraft II and Diablo III. Events scheduled to take place at BlizzCon include tournaments, demonstrations, interviews with senior Blizzard staff members and more.

DirecTV is being touted as the exclusive broadcast provider for the event. They're selling a Pay Per View package for $39.95 to provide viewers with access to the event - 16 hours of live High Definition (HD) coverage from the show floor spread over the event's two days.

To sweeten the pot, DirecTV is offering the package free to new subscribers who sign up for DirecTV services by Sept. 30. What's more, everyone who purchases the event or gets it as part of the special promotion will be eligible to receive an exclusive in-game mount for World of Warcraft - a polar bear, complete with a BlizzCon flag-waving murloc. The murloc are one of the game's many computer-controlled characters - aggressive, warlike bipedal humanoids that look like fishes.

So does that mean we can pay to watch other people play video games?
Bingo! :D
Better. You get to pay to watch what is essentially an infomercial!
What TV is not an infomercial these days?

As for the polar bear riding murloc, I say bring it!
