Has anyone noticed that sometimes during a HD show, some elements, such as a spatula against a white background in a kitchen scene, would have a blue glow or halo around the spatula?

It's almost like my RPTV's convergence is off, but I checked it several times and the convergence is ok. I'm connecting through an HDMI->DVI converter cable since my TV doesn't have HDMI.

Does anyone know whether this is a problem with my TV, or with the vip622, or with the shows themselves?

Thanks!

It could be a problem with your TV but I would do a few more tests to help pinpoint the problem. Hook up the component out from your 622 to your TV and see if that changes things. You also might want to give the composite outs a try. They won't give you HD but your it might help you determine which device has the problem. Also, it would be a good idea to try a different device on the same input that you are using for the satellite receiver. That might not be possible (at least not for the DVI input) but some better DVD players and recorders have component outputs you could try if you still see the problem with your 622 connected to your DVI input.

By the way, if your picture looks fine with your 622 connected to the component inputs I would just leave it connected that way. A lot of people can't tell the difference between the picture when connected to the component vs. the digital (HDMI or DVI) inputs.

What kind of RPTV do you have? Is it just a blue halo or a rainbow of colors? Curious if you have a DLP and are maybe seeing the rainbow effect.

Thanks Rob and Bill...

I'll give the component cables a try and see if that changes anything. I have a Sony KP51WS510 which is not DLP. It's just blue, not a rainbow of colors. I'll report back with what I find with the component cables, as well as S-Video.

Okay the glow is still there using component cables, and I'm seeing it on my TV2 using coax on my 21" TV as well, so I'm guessing it's either the program itself or the VIP622 (I tend to think it's the program). So I guess that's a big relief that I don't have to replace my HDTV :)

Bill R: I can *barely* tell the difference between the component and DVI cables... DVI seems to be just a tad sharper and brighter, but I only notice it when I'm doing a comparison. Otherwise, the component video looks just as gorgeous, so I took your advice and left that in. Which is good since my Media Center PC has only S-Video and DVI outputs, I'm using the DVI that I just freed up for my MCPC, and that has made a world of difference!
