Hi,

I have two HR-21's (living room and basement) working fine since about four years.

Since last week every day in the afternoon both dvrs start power cycling at the same time for few hours (usually 3 to four hours). After power cycling bunch of times by itself both will start working.

I called directv and they asked to not to use surge protector and plug it directly to wall outlet. I tried it once but it did not help.

Has anyone seen similar problem? Any help with this is much appreciated.

I had a HR20-700 do this and in a week or two it finally died. As for both of your dvr's maybe a coincidence dont really know

Do you have a UPS to provide constant power as I have heard of problems with the electric company (any electric provider) having fluctuations in the power provided. When a power company changes the power source (generator) that you receive it could cause a drop in voltage and current and then a power spike as the new generator kicks in. Your HR-21's power supplies may react to this change in power. If you unplug one of your HR-21's after it has the problem occurs again wait a minute or more to plug it back in again. It might stop recycling. If it goes back to normal you might have a marginal power supply in both of the HR-21's.

I had an HR21-700 that would reboot multiple times each day. After I complained for a few weeks, DirecTV finally decided to replace the DVR. The new HR21-700 has worked fine.
