I have the HDDVR + Powerline adapters, adapters are plug into the wall and the lights are all lighting up on them, but when I try to connect my IP is 169.254.7.8 +Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0. It can not see the default gateway or the DNS. It says that it is connected to the network but there is no internet connection. Anybody know what I can do to resolve this?

You could try manually setting up your connection. Set your own IP address, set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and then enter the gateway IP addresses as well as the DNS server addresses. It should connect then.

Read through the network link in my signature and see if it helps...

PM me if you need to.

is it still using a 169.... address? if so its probably not right.
you'll need to know the ip address of your router/modem to use as default gateway. generally dns address is the same, but this is dependent on particular setup.

I 'manually' keyed in 192.168.0.5 as my IP as 192x is what my network uses typed in 255.255.255.0 for my subnet mask 68.87.68.162 as my DNS and 192.168.0.1 as my default gateway. It said everything was ok, but it was still not connected to the internet. Also it is not showing up as an "attached device" to my router.

I have not used the power line adapters, but even though you said all the ligts were working, I would double check it. Any way you can either get your hands on a Laptop or move a PC next to your DVR and see it can get an IP address using the powerline adapters?

IP Addresses like 169.254.x.y mean that the box has not gotten a real IP address from the router. This leads us to a couple of possibilities

1) Bad Ethernet cable
2) Bad powerline adapter
3) If it is an HR21, then maybe you plugged it into the wrong jack (there are two).

I want to transfer stuff to my pc, I've heard of DirecTv2PC, but don't know where to get it from/how it works.
There is no way to digitally transfer content from the HR2xx to your PC. The best you can do is use a stand-alone DVD recorder or a PC video capture card and "record" programs from the HR2x in real-time playback. DirecTV2PC is a beta-test program available to selected candidates participating in the Cutting Edge program (see the Cutting Edge forums for details). Even that does not allow for digital copies, just the ability to watch the HR2x's recordings on your PC.
