Three days ago Dish Network decided to remove a few SunTV channels and make its own package.

Result: To see the same channels I had 3 days ago, I have to pay $30 extra per month.

Dish did this to us before when suddenly they removed KTV and demanded $20 to see just one channel. Trend seems to continue. I have attached a file that shows the current offerings.

I have decided NOT to subscribe to Sun TV package as a principle.

I am seriously considering disconnecting DN now (5 years at MI + 5 years at TX).

I hope somebody sues DN on these unethical practices.

Dish and the channels sign contracts as to what they can provided and for how much. If Dish caused what you say, SunTV would be able to sue Dish and end this. What would make more sense would be the channels/companies that own them would force Dish to change their packages. Your gripe is probably with the channels themselves.

If this is some kind of a sports channel, it was most likely the team(s) or channel owners who forced the change.

Be sure you know the facts before you make a rash decision.

I think they're referring to the India channels.

Yes, that is correct. I was referring to international/indian Tamil channels.

I guess the market research must have said that there are people/suckers who would pay extra $$ to view these channels.

I agree with you wanting people to boycott, but you need to blame the people responsible. You pay Dish for the service, but the provider sets the contracts for what you get and for what you pay.

Yep, I understand boycotting, but be sure you know who caused it, probably not Dish. The programmer decides how they want their programming packaged, Dish can negotiate that but if they want to carry the programming the programmer has that right.

Thanks for the replies. I understand that DN is held hostage by owners of Sun TV package. I guess the title for this conversation emphasizes my feeling.

I'm not even able to add the SUN tv ala-carte package to the Tamil Mega pack online.

Any user experiences for the same?

The total price you pay for the exact same channels hasn't changed. They have rearranged the choices and have implemented it in the worst way possible without proper communication. You can get the mega + Sun for the same $29.99. You have to call CSR to get it. This should have been automatic and no one would have noticed, but they downgraded everyone on Mega. They should have had a free preview period with message flashing about the changes.

The basic issue was that SUN is the most popular channel and there was no way to get SUN without getting all the other channels(SUN's competition). I am sure SUN wasn't happy about it. Dish was using SUN to promote other channels. Now if you are a diehard SUN fan, you can pay $29.99 and get just SUN pack and think that none of your hard earned money would go to its competition, or you can pay $29.99 and get all the channels(except SUN's sister channels) or $39.99 for everything.

Exactly. I don't think you will have to pay anything extra to get the same channels that you were getting in Tamil Mega Pack last month. Only difference is they have added two more SUN channels (music and comedy) and for $10 more you get those two channels + KTV. So, in my opinion, if anything, we are getting a better deal now!
