Long and short of it... The installer arrived an hour and a half late. He didn't have the dish on his order, so the note about needing a 40' ladder seemed a little weird to him. He decided to ignore it. Nothing was done. I now have to wait 11 more days for the next attempt. I say that because I've never had an install / upgrade go smoothly with this particular sub.

I posted earlier about getting a SWMLine dish and everything required for it. You all were great in helping. I got everything I ready; I wired the splitter in the attic, ran a couple of new lines and even installed ceiling speakers for surround while I was up there.:) I was pumped. I thought: "Hey, he can just swap out my SWMLine LNB with the one he's bringing."

To add further insult to injury, he told me that the SWMLines are now available here in Tampa.

Personally, I ignore the 40ft ladder note 95% of the time for the simple fact that it's generally put on by a chicken-sh*t rookie that can't find another way to get to that part of the roof. I've gotten roughly 15-16 40ft ladder jobs this year and needed it once. I did have the ladder that one time too.

Sure, but it isn't the installer's fault that the work order was built incorrectly. Work orders often have notes from previous installs that don't apply to the current work order. They also often don't have the notes that relate to the install actually being done. Hopefully, over the next year or so, as DirecTV brings the installation portion of the business in-house, communication to the installers (as far as work orders and customer notes) will improve.

I appreciate the responses. As far as the 40' ladder, he is the third or fourth installer that couldn't get up there without one.

Is there any way around the installer? Assuming I can get a ladder, the hard part is the aiming, right? The LNB that is already up there is the Mpeg2 variety. The Mpeg4 LNB probably has a different alignment, right?

I'd like to take the installer out of the equation.

Thanks,

Herb

don't think it is possible, installer cannot bring a dish and not install it. Maybe order the new dish from Solid Signal. ask around and get lots of advice from here on how to install. It is not brain surgery, and I think you can do it, if you want to .

Really? I got 2 3LNB's that way ;)

To the OP: The way around the installer is to contract your own, or DIY, but that means you pay more.

I have done it this way with complete satisfaction, no excess stomach acid. It does cost more, but you can probably get a credit from D* for part of it. Plus, the guy comes when you want him to, and does what you want him to. And he speaks English (or, in my case, Southern).
