Brand New 500 Worth/Good For Anything?

834 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  BobaBird
Before we were married, my wife ordered Dish service and received a 500 system in a sealed box. She doesn't remember what she paid for the system, if anything. The installer showed up at her old place, took one look and said, "Too many trees," and left. She never heard anything more from Dish or anyone else.

We still have the system, and it is still in its sealed box. Anyone know if it is of any value these days? I hate to just throw it away, but it is taking up space we don't have. FWIW, we are currently D* subs, but will likely switch and get a 622 after the first of the year.

Thanks.

Everything is worth something... on eBay. You didn't give any precise description, but I'm going to assume by "system" you mean a box that contains a receiver, probably a 301, with a satellite dish, a 500.

If that's the case, it probably worth about $80 to $90 on eBay.
Sorry, I got in a hurry and didn't want to pull the box out. It says it is a 3822 system. It looks like it was made in 2000. It is still sealed, so I can't verify what is in it. I prefer not to unseal the box unless I absolutely have to.

Thanks, I just might put it on eBay.
That's a 3800 receiver. Those were upgraded to Model 3900 a few years ago. I'd check with [email protected] to see if a 3800 with initial factory software will take the current 3900 software (I recall the 4700 required an interim upgrade before being converted to a 4900 around the same time). "22" means a Dish 500 with 2 legacy Dual LNBs and SW21 switches.
