I looked for this subject and couldn't find it discussed already.

Most of the other "stuff" I have experienced with the R15
I find discussed here, so I hold out hope on those other things
that there might actually be a fix coming.

The problem is that it seems every update causes new problems.
The latest is that when we turn the TV on and try to rewind live
TV, it momentarily taunts me by showing that the buffer has
some time on it, then it clears it out. And, needless to say, it
doesn't rewind.

Anybody experiencing this? This is pretty recent for me (sorry I
don't have the details of my update - I am away from home).

Thanks in advance,
Richard

Can you record shows? It sounds like possibly the DVR functionality is not turned on. You need to call DirecTV and have them re-send that activation code.

Had the same thing happen a few months ago. After trying all tech support wanted to try they sent a new receiver.

Yes, I can record shows (usually). The "can't rewind or pause" thing seems to be intermittent, just like the 60 other problems I have. Oh well.

I would recommend the following, in the order listed.
1. A regular reset (red button by access card).
2. A power cycle reset - pull the power cord for 30 seconds or so, then plug it back in.
3. A software download - reset then at the first blue screen enter 02468 and nothing else.
4. A reformat - reset then when the blue screen clears (turns black) push and hold the down arrow and record buttons on the front of the DVR.

The last one, item 4, will erase everything you have recorded.

Typically, 3 and 4 end up resolving many problems, especially 4.

I'm suprised that no one else has seen this one, although I did see
someone say that they hit record on a show they'd been watching
and it only recorded from that point (cleared the buffer). That happens
to me, too. I suppose they are the same problem.

Do #1 and #2 achieve the same results?
If you do #1, does that wipe out everything on your todo list?
I'm hesitant to do #4 since I've got tons of stuff on there for the
kids and I've read so many posts saying that they did this with
no results. If I wiped everything out and it still didn't work, I'd
be a little beyond enraged.

The thing that bothers me the most are the "new" problems I
keep getting from the "fixes".

#1 does a software reset while #2 would force software and hardware to be completely reset. Yes if you do any of them you will ose whats in the ToDo list but that will rebuild itself over time but the first day will be there almost right away.

Sorry to hear you are having so many issues, many are hoping the next version of the software helps on many fronts. :)

I had this exact problem about 3 weeks ago. The "Red Button Salute" fixed it. been good ever since. I think there was a hiccup with the buffer recorder becuase I was also having timing issues with the series links that also cleared up after the reset.

I still think everyone should do either a weekly or biweekly reset (from the menu or red button) to keep your R-15 working well. It helps avoid any problems, slowdowns, etc....

Mine have been close to problem free for months now.
