I'm on the wait list for the HR20 but I noticed by local Best Buy has them in stock. I called DTV and was told that if I buy them from Best Buy that they'll still come out to do the installation of the new dish for free.

Does anyone have any experience in this scenario and is it true? Part of me is hesitant to buy the unit from BB or CC and I wanted to get other peoples' feedback.
thanks

You sure can. You can also sometimes get Directv to give you a credit for a portion of the cost of the receiver if you can swing it.

Once I can find one in stock locally, I have in my notes at DirecTV they will give me a $200 credit. If DirecTV calls me before I can find one I will get it for $99. I want to add an HR20 receiver to my account, already have the HR10.

Yes I did this. Once I had the receiver in hand, I called D* to make sure they removed the charge from my bill for their receiver, then went ahead and scheduled for the rest of the install which was still free. One note is that they have to create a new install ticket. My date didn't change though, they put me in the same slot as was previously scheduled. If you don't have an install date right now, then any confirmed date would be better than the one you have now, which is none. :)

I bought my HR 20 from Best Buy yesterday. Hooked it up today and called DTV and they said they would install the new dish for free. I think the new dish is to receive Local Channels in HD. Only 3 local channels in this area are listed on their line up. I guess I can get a OTA for the rest of the channels.
How did you guys swing a 99 for the HR 20? I paid over 300 including tax for mine.

Tonedeaf means the offer from D* is, if they provide one before he goes to a retailer to get one, he'll get it from them for 99. Any retailer is gonna charge you 299. So for him at least, it's about how long he wants to wait for it. ;)

Why is it I can go to 5 out of the 6 Best Buys in my area and find these things but yet I have been on the list since I signed up for service 2 weeks ago and not heard anything?

You would think DirecTV would keep the majority of the units for themselves until there is no longer a waiting list.

Very frustrating when I am told that I have to go through Directv to get the upgrade credit for my non DVR HD reciever.

I placed an order on CircuitCity.com the other day for 2. No problems and it shipped right now. Called DirecTV and they credited my account $630 for the two units. I guess it depends on the CSR you get. It seems that CC.com has a bunch in stock.

If you're on the waiting list then work with a CSR so that they will credit your account whatever deal you're getting once you activate the HR20 you buy at Best Buy. Many people have done this.

So when I do this they will ask me to send the other unit back? I dont want to go out and buy this and then get stuck with an extra unit I dont need.

The wait list is just that. All they will do is call you to see if you still want it. It's not sent automatically. Basically just work it out with the CSR.

Thats not what I am saying. Currently I have an order for a DVR Plus and an HD reciever. I was told I could trade my HD reciever in for a HD DVR and get the $99 i paid back but only if I did it through them. (on the waiting list)

Its a non issue anyway because I went ahead and got it from Best Buy. If they wont take my HD reciever and give the credit then I will just cancel my order before the install date and go somewhere else.

I've been on the waiting list with DTV for 2 weeks. I got tired of waiting and ordered an HR20 online from Best Buy Sunday night and it shipped out of Ohio on Tuesday. I should have it Thursday.
