Buzzing Issues - help needed

662 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Carl Spock
Hello......

My wife and I have been noticing substantial audio buzzing while watching shows on NBC and I would like to know if others have as well. I have an HR21-700.

When watching a show on NBC, the audio will buzz for about 3 sec and then goes back to normal. This occurs about once a minute or so.

During Saturday Night Live, we experienced that buzzing issue and then my wife informed me that she heard that same buzz when watching another show on the same station the other night....and now it happened while watching America's Got Talent.

The strange thing is that this does not occur while watching the same show using the R-15 receiver/DVR - according to my wife.

Any thoughts on this? how would one try to solve this issue before calling DirecTV. I know some people have also experienced this, but I am not sure how widespread this is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Couple of questions:

Do you get the NBC station as a LiL or off-air? Do you receive the NBC station in HD?

You could be getting totally different audio feeds for your HD and SD DVRs. That could account for the problem and it could be a local one with your station. I would tend to suspect that if it is only on a couple of programs. Problems with DirecTV's signal are usually more global.

The occasional buzzing/audio breakup is a widely reported problem with the NBC HD signal. Since it happens in more than one city it is either a problem in the network source, or it's something in the equipment at the local station.

Good point.

We are getting the audible buzzing from the HD signal on the Hr-21-700 and the R-15 is hooked up to a Std Def. We are not using OTA. So if many people are getting this audible buzz, it should not be specific to a Local TV station right? I wonder if DirecTV is aware of this issue?

It is very annoying.
One, listen to texasbrit. He knows what's going on.

Two, I've never noticed it with my NBC affiliate but they've been broadcasting HD for five years now, so if there were local causes, I think they would have those worked out by now. It wouldn't surprise me if this buzz was combination of local, network and DirecTV issues.

I also get my NBC OTA, so that may make a difference.

I would talk with your local station. My experience is most station engineers, if you come at them from a non-aggressive stance, are very helpful. First document the exact times and programs you hear the buzz on. Then call the station engineer directly and ask him about it. These folks work long and hard hours, often in the middle of the night, and they in general want to provide the finest signal they can.

It also doesn't hurt to give that same documentation to DirecTV.
