I have a problem that I don't think anybody has addressed in all this. My husband and I follow four football teams. With DirecTV, we can record three games while watching one semi-live. That way we can fast forward through all the commercials on the first game and then do the same on the other three. I guess nobody else follows more than one team? Plus I know this requires an immense amount of discipline to stay off the internet during the games.

I just don't know what you can do with streaming. Will they allow you to watch it on a delayed basis and fast forward through commercials? The few times I have checked out football games on Amazon, they still have the commercials. And I'm pretty sure you have to wait until it's entirely completed to watch it and then fast forward. That certainly something I don't want to do!

In addition fast forwarding on a streaming service is pretty damn hard. Every service acts differently on the way they do it and it's definitely not as easy (or smooth) as doing it on DirecTV.

So so no, I am definitely not happy about Sunday ticket going to a streaming service.

Trickplay on Directv Stream and pretty sure YTTV is way smoother then using a Directv DVR with the exception of Manual Timers DVRing on Stream is way better then regular Directv

This isn't a satellite only forum. It is for Directv. If I go to Directv.com I'm offered either a satellite variant, or streaming variant. The NFL isn't being "stupid", they are maximizing their revenue by moving to a streaming service who is willing to pay what Directv could no longer afford to (or was willing to).
No tears here for DIRECTV. Depending on where you live you are forced to get a dish to get Sunday Ticket. Luckily I have both an apartment and house in separate states so I was able to finagle a streaming only subscription. I have a subscription MLB and NBA and did not have to play such games as DIRECTV required. And they are way overpriced compared to NBA, MLB and NHL. I have no doubt that APPLE, AMAZON or DISNEY can do better.

The best solution is to make it available to multiple services but the value is in the exclusivity.

If the NFL rights situation was anything like that of MLB or MLS, you might have an argument.

My observation isn't just about who gets to see the games but also what hoops the winner will have to go through to validate that each view is in accordance with the rules. DIRECTV has a very tidy access control system in place where streaming can be considerably more difficult (especially with respect to viewing location).
And you don't think that this hasn't been discussed with the new providers? MLB has some very strict out of market rules that the MLB app takes into account, including which regions are allows to see certain games and such. It works as expected for my experience, but I have heard of occasional issues. Again, you are naive if you think that the ONLY method that can work is DirecTV's method. I think you are completely wrong about that.

or an commercial establishment ends on bar rescue with big loses after being sued for pirating NFL sunday ticket
boo hoo. After cars were invented the horse and buggy business hit a tailspin too. Life goes on and bars will need to either figure it out or go belly up. Sorry, but I have no remorse for them if they didn't think it through and plan for it. The smart ones have a plan, the dumb ones will go out of business, like any time things change.

Not everyone can get good home broadband .

I wish I could get tmobile or Verizon Wireless LTE/5G home broadband. I would kiss this POS docsis good bye in a heartbeat.

Some folks have outages all the ... time and we are told it's "maintenance " ...

Some folks have no line of sight for satellite, or live in apartment complexes that don't allow for a dish. Your point is? Either way you're going to have some subset of potential viewers not have it available. Also, there's rain fade for satellite which also mean an outage. So again, either way you go, there's issues that effect some subset of viewers.

I have MLB Extra Innings and also have it set up where if I had to I could watch games via the MLB At Bat app. The screen on my phone when trying to watch goes blurry all the time if I try to watch and buffers all the time when trying to watch a game. It’s impossible to watch a game and enjoy it because of the buffering. So if the NFL goes to a streaming service, the NFL will lose my dollars. I do live in a rural area and rely on DIRECTV. All I am hoping for is DIRECTV finds a way to maintain Sunday Ticket but don’t let it move to an exclusive all streaming service. Give people who have streaming services like Amazon, Apple, or ESPN+ the option to receive the games, but don’t take it away from DIRECTV subscribers. It will be a disaster for many who won’t be able to see out of market games.
So here's the thing. You're in a rural area and you'll potentially lose your access, but then again, a lot of folks in URBAN areas, who live in apartments or cannot have a dish for whatever reason (or subscribe to cable) who never had access before now will. I totally get why you'd be upset, but it's a tradeoff. Will they get more subs this way than the old way? Time will tell. I think it's a good bet they do.

You are not alone. Out of market team, like to record and start 15-20 late to skip the commercials and most of halftime. By the middle of the 3rd, I'm usually live. How do I do this streaming? Is it possible? Will games be available on-demand a few minutes after they start or will we have to wait until they are over?

There are rumors that Directv will retain commercial or maybe even commercial + satellite residential rights via sublicense.

If say Apple got it and plans to charge $300, they could allow Directv to sell it for example for $350 and showing Apple's inserted ads or $400 and letting Directv insert their own ads. Not only would they make more than selling to those customers directly (so they wouldn't look at as a competition) they'd more money overall since they'd catch those customers who either can't stream or are older people who refuse to mess with newfangled technology like my mom (not an NFL fan, but she refuses to have anything to do with streaming even though she's got fast internet and a smart TV) Even if there were only 250K such residential satellite only customers that's $100M towards what they're paying.

Having Directv sell commercial rights makes too much sense. Every bar that wants to carry NFLST already has Directv, it isn't like there's an untapped market of bars that are set up for streaming on all their TVs but can't do satellite like there is in the residential market. Directv is already set up to do the billing and everything else, so let them handle the hassle and Apple can just cash the checks and worry about what they're good at - innovation on the consumer side.

No one knows what's going to happen until it is announced, so it is pointless to worry about who is going to be cut off from NFLST before then. It is in the interest of whoever buys the rights to maximize its potential distribution, since they will be paying the NFL a fixed cost.
I'd bet that these rumors are more speculation and wishful thinking than actual rumors. Probably started by folks who fear they will lose their access and are trying to figure out a way to maintain it. Everything I'm reading is that DirecTV has ZERO interesting in Sunday Ticket, they have ZERO interest in using it as a way to GROW satellite which they think is a dying business and want to push streaming as much as possible. I think eventually DirecTV may get Red Zone channel, and I really think that's the best you could hope for at this point (and for me, that's enough).

Live streams of sports are a minimum of 30 seconds behind satellite, even further behind cable and OTA.
This is a legitimate complaint. I stay away from any notifications on my phone when I stream stuff. I'm not sure how that can be fixed. Satellite is also behind but not quite as much. I've gotten phone notifications while watching baseball games a few seconds before it happens on the TV

I don't care where Sunday Ticket goes. I think it was way to expensive for what you got. Primary beef is you should have access to archived games; current and past seasons. This is somewhat mitigated with recording games. Which brings up another problem. You could instant replay on DTV. Frame by frame if you want. You could rewind and fast forward. Through commercials even. You could skip 30 seconds between plays to watch a condensed game game in less than an hour. Streaming isn't going to be able to do this. Almost everyone will miss this ability to the point of being angered about it. The streaming experience of Sunday Ticket will suck. Grin and bear it though. It's happening. But again, I don't care. I gave up on it years ago. I might partake in a game or two for my team if the streaming service offers PPV at a reasonable price. I'm cheap. Even $10 would make me squeak. Subscribe to a whole season? I don't think so. The streaming experience will be far, far less than DTV. NFL gets rich and the customers get screwed.

But you aren't getting my point. We have FOUR out of market teams we follow. Even with a DVR and fast forwarding through commercials, it takes all of Sunday to watch all four games. But if I'm forced to watch them all WITH commercials, I may have to wait until Monday for one or two or give up one of my teams. That's not an improvement IMHO...

I only have one team, but I follow the whole NFL, so I definitely agree with your concerns. I love to be able to record multiple games (and the redzone channel sometime) and then when I have time skim through them to catch up, and switching games and fast forwarding is never as good on a streaming service. As I mentioned, I have used xfinity stream and YouTubeTV for my other local sports teams, and the skimming through experience has been terrible. Plus just watching xfinity stream is glitchy at times. Again, the technology is always improving, so I hope it eventually matches the experience on DTV, but I am very skeptical.

No, what is very stupid is forcing people to switch to a streaming service when there is no reason to. There are rural areas in many areas of the country where internet service isn’t that fast yet. And this is a Satellite forum to start with so if you are so against DIRECTV what are you even doing on this site? Makes no sense. 🤬
There's billions of reasons to, as in dollars. It makes a lot of sense, from a business standpoint. You just don't like it because it effects you directly. Fear not, because eventually you'll have the bandwidth to stream too. Unlike satellite where there are physical barriers to getting a dish, those type of physical barriers are going way for streaming with the build out of 5G networks. Once that covers more of the country, you should be golden. Sure you might have to wait a bit, but eventually it will get to you.

Right now no one knows how it will work but as an example on MLB-TV streaming when you go to watch a game that is already in progress it give you the choice to either watch LIVE or start from the beginning. So that technology is there. I'm not 100% sure but I think on those MLB games if you start at the beginning of game that is already in progress that you can skip through commercials until you reach the point where you are watching the live broadcast. I'll check it later today to be sure.

There is no way the NFL could be allowed to go to an all streaming service. No HD quality video in a lot of places, no way to DVR a game, a lot of disadvantages if a very popular sport like the NFL moves to streaming. It won’t work. Just watch. Fans in New York have been tweeting every Friday how they can’t see Friday Night Yankee Games because they moved them to Amazon and are wanting the games put back on YES. Just watch the NFL is making a BIG Mistake if they move games to streaming. The NFL already made a huge mistake putting the Thursday Night Game starting this year to Amazon. There will be folks mad who won’t be able to watch.
If you want it bad enough, you'll subscribe if you can. I'm a Yankees fan, and I get Amazon (and the nice thing about Amazon, at least for THESE games, is, as a Prime subscriber (which I've been for YEARS), there's no extra charge for those games. But, fans are spoiled. I remember the days when there was only 50 games on broadcast TV and you had to subscribe to cable to get the rest. Or even pre-cable, listen on the radio. People always complain about something new that they aren't used to. That's life. Your complaint is valid for YOUR situation, but, for others, they will now have the opportunity to watch ST where they didn't before.

Good for your father-in-law. What the hell is Starlink? Never heard of that service before because there is no such service of that name in my area. As was said earlier different areas have different services. Different services have different speeds and prices. Fact!
Starlink is satellite based and a simple Google search will bring you right to their page. (Fact!)

It is available in the vast majority of continental US and is planned to cover 100% in 2023. It is real, it does work, and they prioritize delivering service to people in areas where other alternatives are poor or do not exist.

DirecTV has had a strangle hold on service to rural areas and monopoly on NST for decades. They have abused their duopoly with Dish for way too long and I am happy to see their business model disintegrate. I fired them at our home years ago to stream and I couldn't be happier. My services don't buffer, picture quality is in all of its 4k fidelity, I have unlimited DVR capacity, don't suffer rain-fade, doesn't cost me over $200/month, and when I pay for my equipment, I actually own it.

I'm still beholden to DTV at one of our remote vacation rentals where I am pending delivery of our Starlink equipment, but then I'll say goodbye to DTV once and for all.
