First, let me apologize if there are other threads about this. My initial search didn't produce any results.

When I got home today, I had a message on the answering machine from Directv. The message said that they had detected a design flaw in some of the HD receivers that would cause them to have unannouced failures (a receiver normally announces that it's about to fail?). Anyway, the message went on to say that I had been identified as the owner of such a receiver and that they would like to replace the receiver free of charge.

My question is.....is this legit? The message just sounded kind of fishy. If so, is anyone aware of which models have this specific design flaw?

If you have one or some of the H20-600 receivers, some of them are being recalled.
Pretty lengthy discussion about it at the following link.

Do it while you can. I was an unfortunany whose H20-600 failed before it was recalled.

If you use the OTA tuner, make sure you tell them that, so they can credit you for the purchase of an AM21 to go with the new receiver you will get.

I convinced them to let me upgrade to a HR22+AM21, and they let me go to Best Buy to get it, so I wouldn't be down as long, and then took $100 off my next bill. YMMV.

The AM21 only works with a dvr, not an hd receiver.

D* was also having as they put it "issues" with their HR DVR receivers. The receiver and the remote wouldn't work together. As an example you would put in 247 on the remote and you would end up on a completely difference channel. Yet if you went into the Guide and worked down the Guide to Channel 247 it worked fine. Really crazy
