Caller ID on HR-20 - Works/Doesn't Work/Etc

The Caller ID feature that many have been having trouble with has been a problem with me as well. Of course, D** only offers advice to check that I actually have Caller ID. Believe it or not, I didn't cancel it in the 10 minutes it took me to switch out the H-10 for the HR-20, but thanks for asking D**. Brilliant!

Well, the Caller ID feature has started working intermittantly. It either shows that a call is coming in and the number (hooray -but rare), it shows nothing at all (becoming more common), it instructs me to sign up for caller id during the call, or it instructs me to sign up after the call has stopped. For the longest time I only got the "sign up for caller ID" screen after the switch to the HR-20.

Maybe things are shaking up and getting fixed or is this a new bug?

Not a new bug...

I get that on occasion on one of my HR20's, but not the other... and they are both connected to same jack.

I know if I switch the wire between the two... the inconsistancy follows the wire.
Stopped working for me as well but a system reboot fixed it.
Since the beginning, one of mine has worked and one hasn't. Updates have made no difference. I've even tried plugging them into the same jack with no improvement.
Mine has worked about 99% of the time since it was installed mid-October. The few times it hasn't worked, it shows the Please Subscribe message.
Never worked at all for me. But I'm wondering if it has something to do with the phones I have in my house.
I've added this item to the HR20 Wish List Survey today.
And here's my setup.

I have these clamp-on things that I used on the line in my basement to add the phone line for satellite. They then go to phone line and a box. After the box is a DSL filter and then a splitter. One line goes to the HR20 and one to the R10. Definitely doesn't seem like the ideal setup, but it's worked for Tivo and no caller id on the HR20.

I have DSL in our spare bedroom so the DSL modem is hooked up to the phone line in there.

I then have a Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone attached to another phone line.

Maybe if we post our detailed setup, we can see some trends from the ones that don't work and the ones that do.

And just to reiterate, mine has worked 99% of the time in the 2.5 months I've had it.

Hmmm. It sounds like you have a "crappy" line setup and it works just fine. In my case, I have 100% Cat-5 wiring going through a CAT-5 voice block. I, too, have DSL but it comes into the house via a whole-house filter. I have tried to plug directly into the data jack outside, but I haven't tried with an individual DSL filter attached. My DSL connection is > 5Mb/s download, so I'm relatively close to the Central Office. Makes me wonder if the voltage is just too high on the phone line for the HR20 to properly interpret the Caller ID information.
Mine works 100% on the second ring for both my H20 and HR20.

I do not have DSL, I am on Bellsouth service.

I have both the recievers, and 4 other cordless phones connected.

Did you know that the telephone company can boost/cut your signals on your line? Maybe that is the problem. Call them up and tell them to give you some boost/cut and see if it helps.
My caller ID ALWAYS worked on the H10. The only change in my "lines" is the upgrade to the HR20. That's why I don't think it's a line voltage/DSL issue. And if it is, shouldn't it have been considered in the software patches?

Hey! I never said "crappy", but "not ideal"! At least mine works :p

That is a good point. I guess for people that upgraded from another receiver that had a working caller ID, the only difference would be the receiver, so does that narrow it done to the HR20?
I've always gotten the sign up for caller id during the call message and nothing else.
Mine works.

More details on how it's hooked up, DSL filters, splitters, etc. would be nice.

Mine worked prior to 0x10b. With 0x10b, stopped working until I did the RBR . now it works as before.

Mine worked fine before the current release (obtained from "Santa"), but now it doesn't work. I have tried RBR many times with no success. It still tells me that I need to subscribe to Caller ID, which I do.

I have had my Hr20 since September and caller ID has never worked, (must subcribe message). After the latest software release I don't even get that. It is hooked up with a dsl filter as has all the other receivers in the past. Before the HR20 I had a Toshiba, Samsung, H20 hooked up there and they all always worked.
