I currently have a two-dish setup (Western arc) and was wondering if a Hopper/Joey install can be configured utilizing my two existing dishes or will I need to replace them with a 1000.x dish?

It's possible with a DP44, but it would be simpler for the technician to replace the two DISH antennas with a single 1000.2 DISH antenna.

If you have good signal, restrictions to locate dish(es), high pitch roof, etc and your LNBFs are DP/DPP type, then DPP44 will be your choice.

I had two dishes and when the tech got here he was annoyed, not at me, but said I shouldn't have had two. When I upgraded to HD a couple years ago, they put up a 2nd antenna rather than replace the one up there. This tech said they shouldn't have (I had no idea).

So he replaced the two with the one. Much cleaner install (obviously). But also, I swear I get a better picture. On all TV's including my media room projector. I don't know why or how, but I can tell a difference on all TV's!

I upgraded to the Hopper on a whim. My dual turner 622 went out and they were going to send me another. I asked if there was anything newer, and all of a sudden we were talking Hopper. So we did it. Love it so far, but hadn't done much research before this. So now playing catch up and learning.

I have 2 Hoppers with 3 dishes - 4 satellites, 110/119, 61.5, 72.7 - with a DP44 and no problems.

(Weird LOS issues - will go to 2 dishes, 61.5 and 72.7 after a garage roof repair.)

The solo node requires 2 DPP inputs, wouldn't a Twin Pro Plus Lnbf work with a DP single/dual on the wing dish? Haven't tried this personally, but technically should work right?

Right.
Simple rule: to Solo/Duo Node's input signal must be DPP type: e.g. from DPP switch (external - DPP44 or internal/integrated with LNBF); to DPP switch these signals delivering by DP/DPP LNBFs.
