Is there some way to program the the HR20s to work on different codes? I've been using my Harmony remote with both an HR20 and and HR10-250 and I recently got the HR10-250 swapped for a second HR20. However, now when I'm controlling my HR20, the second HR20 changes channels at the same time which could be a problem when watching and deleting shows from my lists. I basically want to be able to control them independently without messing with the other one.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Yes you can (I assume they are in the same room).

The HR2x have two IR code sets(00001 & 00003).

Set one of the HR20's to the second code set.

Your Harmony will have two ID's for the HR20.

If you have an 890, you could use ir for one hr-20, and rf for the other..

I use my 880 with two HR20-700s, an HR10-250, and an HDVR2 with no problems. Now what I want to know is can I add an HR21 (since the HR20-700s are no longer obtainable) to the mix and get my 880 to control the HR21 along with the aforementioned receivers?

Not without conflicts, no. The HR20 & HR21 share the same two IR addresses.

I am running into the same issue. I have an existing HR20, just replaced one HR10-250 with an HR21 and still have one more HR10-250 to replace with an HR21. I am also using an 880. I really need to control 3 HRXX boxes.

Sounds like this could be a major issue then. If there was a way to have a 3rd remote IR code to choose, that'd solve the problem.

Would a third HR20-700 be possible? I might be able to get my hands on one of those.

No, it uses the same two addreses 00001 & 00003, as the hr21.

What amazes me is that one reason they don't have DLB on their boxes is because they want customers to have multiple IRDs (don't let anyone here fool you to believe this isn't one of the reasons when it truly is)--means more money for them--but then the lack of more than two IR codes hamstrings customers from getting more than two on one television.

Sometimes the backward thinking of DirecTV never ceases to amaze me. This is where I give kudos to DISH--for their ability to have better technological foresight.

It is extremely sad that we don't have some of the most basic features for the DVR. I have an HR20, and two HR21 and I am unable to control them with a simple IR controller (which controlled 5 different Tivo units). I understand giving up the Tivo units, I don't like giving up features, especially for Tivo units that were basic and outdated from a Tivo perspective. But, I realize that content is king and Directv handled the swap well for me.
I believe we don't have dual buffers due to the programming overhead associated with that feature and I am not sure that we could tolerate the pain in code stability if that feature was added to the code.
I just want a reliable DVR that matches the reliabilty that I experienced with the Tivo units. I can live without DLB, VOD, and especially the annoying ads buried in the Guide. Heck, I am still getting used to the quirks of the HR21 relative to the HR20 which I like better.
