Are you guys getting your HD locals (MPEG4) on 99 or 103? And what kind of signal strength are you getting? I keep being told that a signal of 35-50 is great for sat. 103 is this simaliar to what you guys are getting off of these satellites? I get in the 80-90's on the 101,110, and 119 it is just the 103 for me that is the problem.

Thanks,

I am out of town right now but I will check for you when I get back to STL. However, I will say it appears we are lucky in that I have not had many of the other isssues with the MPEG4 stuff that many other on this forum are complaining about. So I guess things are working okay. Have you had any unusual issues with rain fade or picture breakup which would lead you to worry about signale strength?

yes if the wind blow or it does more than a sprinkle I will loose HD locals. And there are no trees or anything in the way of the dish at all.

Thanks,

Sounds wrong to me. I have not had any problems with rain fade and certainly not with wind. In fact, with the AT9 (5LNB) dish, I seem to be more resistent to that stuff than ever. Who told you those levels were good? I would call D* and ask them to send someone out again. Anyhow, I will look at my levels for you in Friday unless someone else in STL can look before then?

thanks, I have had a couple different techs out with the same result. And they have tried to get a better signal but that is the best they can get. So that is why I was wanting to get some info from other people on the same HD locals as I am.

Those are WAY too low. I don't recall mine, I will check when I get home.

The more I see this crap, the more interested I get in buying a Super Buddy so I can start pointing peoples dishes.

I have a question about the Local HD channels in STL too.
I wasn't at home when the installer put in the HR20, but he did tell my wife that we have the HD package for four months for free. Does that mean we should get the Local HD over the dish? If so, what channels are they on? I looked at the ABC-East and ABC-West, etc. and none of them came up. I see the standard def channels (2,4, 5, 11, 30).

You don't need the HD package to receive the HD Locals, you just need to subscribe
to the Total Choice Plus Locals packages, or what ever it is called.

There are 2 sets of locals that show up on your channel guide on the HR20

2 -- KTVI
2 -- ST2
4 -- KMOV
4 -- ST4

and so on.

You don't get the National channels, that is a different package.

Edit: Also the HD package includes ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, Universal HD, Discovery HD, HD Net, HDNet Movies

No it means you get the satellite HD package which includes the following stations (I may have forgotten some)

ESPN-HD
ESPN2-HD
Discovery-HD
TNT-HD
Universal-HD
HD-NET

Look at ch 72 and go up to 79...

I seem to remember getting similar strengths in the past, but I just checked and am getting 59 96 74 97 58 & 95 now.

I received horrible reception on Fox with my OTA. Everything else was pretty good for the most part though. Watching the World Series was brutal with the weather we were having, but I couldn't bring myself to change the channel and watch it in SD. Pathetic, isn't it?

THose are too low, your dish needs to be re-pointed and/or fine-tuned. I"m in STL, and have not had any Rain/Wind fade on locals (even during some seemingly heavy storms).

103: 67 98 82 98 66 96
99: 19 58 83 45 28 0

During the World Series I recorded on both 10-250 via OTA and HR20 via (MPEG4) and I don't remember having any reception problems.

I'm in Troy which is probably on the fringe of the spot beam. I remember the installer saying that 50 was good for 103 but I don't remember his readings.
