I can no longer receive MPEG 4 local channels. I have had DirecTV installers here 4 times in 3 weeks. The first time was the initial install, then 2 more times the guys comes back because system goes out, reajdusts it and leaves. The system went out again, I request a new installer he shows up we go on the roof, and the whole dish is laying on the floor, it was mounted on the the roof on the side into the brick, and it just ripped out, the first installer didn't anchor it right, so now I got big holes in my bricks where the dish used to be mounted. The new guy seems better he mounts it better or so I thought, a week later I turn it on this morning and no Mpeg 4 channels. I get the following :

101 - 85% (this used to be 95% last week)
110 - 95%
119 - 95 %
99(b) - Not acquired
103 (a) - Not acquired

Does anyone have a breakdown of what the above satellites are used for ?

I'm at the point where I'm going to throw this whole system out. I have been a customer 10 years, if it wasn't for the NFL Package I would of jumped ship along time ago.

I haven't had any complaints with the HR20 itself, since I'm not recording much, but have had major complaints with the install process.

Thanks

This is rough and may have some inaccuracies and is not complete but will give you an "idea":

119 (My SD Locals, and 72,76,79) ESPN-HD, Discovery-HD, HD-Net

99 (MPEG-4/HD-Locals in some markets)

103 (MPEG-4/HD-Locals in some markets)

101 (Main DirecTV Feed...lots of "standard" channels)

110 (ESPN-HD, TNT-HD, Universal-HD)

If you do some searching on lyngsat.com, you can figure out the rest and correct any errors in my "rough" summary.

A drop from 95 to 85 per cent in one week makes me suspicious that your dish moved.

The above is accurate and also some RSN's are on 99 and 103 depending on your market.

I think the same thing, these installers just dont seem to know what there doing. Im going to call DirecTV today and speak to a manager or something, its insane that I have had 3 visits to fix the dish, and it fell off the wall one time. Do you think I should insist on a stand this time ?

DirecTV contracts out installs to companies who submit the lowest bid. Those companies subcontract out the installs to what is known as "independant contractors" who are paid a fixed low price for a given install. Installers have no benefits and must work fast to earn enough money to live on. Installers who do good jobs earn less money than installers who rush and do bad installs.

Yep, I'm aware of this, and feel bad for the installers that this is how DirecTV has set it up, but should that really be my issue ? I should get the install done right and not rushed because DirecTV doesn't want to pay the installers correctly.

Yes, indeed. It should not be the customer's problem.

Me, I do any installs/upgrades myself, or pay a trusted independent installer to do what I am unable or unwilling to handle.

It costs more, but in the grand scheme of things it's a drop in the bucket compared to what I pay D* each year.

Shouldn't have to be that way, but I guess D* feels like paying little money to borderline competent people is the best way to compete. I feel bad for the good installers working for the contractors...they get tarred with the same brush.
