Has anyone ever had a receiver swapped out [ same model, done by a tech] and noticed a difference in color or PQ?

Maybe I'm losing it, but it looks different to me. My original receiver seemed better, both color and pq.

Can this vary from receiver to receiver? I never touched my tv settings.

I'd appreciate any input.

I wonder if I can get my other one back?

It was swapped because of a guide issue, and some pixellation,[ which wasn't resolved.]

I would be looking at the connections to the receiver. Were you using HDMI and the tech didn't use it? Or is whatever connection(s) you use not firmly seated into the receiver? I would also check to be sure the connection to the TV is still pushed in (seated). I would say there is virtually no difference unless something is wrong with a receiver.

I would unplug each connection and re-plug it in. If nothing changes, it's not impossible something happened to the cable especially if it's HDMI. If you have another one try it.

I would also check to make sure the setting on the receiver is set to the highest resolution allowed by your TV. Perhaps it is set to a lower resolution. Thanks.

Yep, check the output resolution. The default on the VIP receivers is 480i or P. You probably want 1080i. Assuming you have a HD TV.

Checked all connections again. All firmly seated. Same HDMI cable is being used.

Resolution is 1080i 16x9.

All the remote commands work fine, but when I finally had time to watch tv after the swap, the color was more saturated with a yellow tinge to the faces, and the picture seems softer.

I adjusted the tv settings to try and accomodate this, but I still think the picture from the original receiver was better. So, thus my question, can receivers vary?

I will try a different hdmi cable, but the original was just fine before the swap.

Dish tech support had no suggestions other than to send a tech back out [ like I posted earlier, original problem wasn't resolved, and now this] It will be their 4th visit.

Being fair to the tech installers, they did check connections, replaced the coax from ground block to receiver, and also replaced the lnb. I can't say they didn't try, but had I known a different receiver would vary, I would have kept the original, as I was quite happy with the overall picture.

You might also have 720P available.

On my tv I can't really tell the difference between 1080I and 720P.

Do you have another hd monitor you can use with the receiver in question? Have you tried other hd content from say a blu-ray to compare on the same tv?

Are you looping your hdmi through an avr (surround sound) and then to the tv and if so have you tried to go directly to the tv to compare?

There is a hd tv [ tv2] But I never watch that one, and it is LCD, so it would be harder to compare that to my plasma. I would have to bring it downstairs and hook it up as tv2 is only SD.

Don't have bd player, just a up-convert samsung. But I will look at that as well.
My Plasma is 6 months old and like I mentioned, the issue was apparent to me after the swap.
My AVR is older, so the HDMI goes right to TV from receiver.

Perhaps some capacitor in your plasma TV is dried (need check all for ESR and its value) in the 6 mo - any device is prone to change parameters during any period of time ...

Not really, from your description either you will still see a yellow tinge or not. I would try the LCD on the HD output and see how the picture looks. Also not sure saw the suggestion, is your plasma 720P perhaps, did you try 720 on the receiver?

One other thing - is it connected to the same HDMI input as the other receiver was?

I don't know what a ESR is, but, the change happened in an hour's time when a different receiver was plugged in, [unless something caused the change at the point of plug-in]

I will look at it the way it is set up now as tv2 [SD] and see if I can tell a color change, [ good point] but since my plasma [ I think so, anyway] is more sensitive, everything on it is easily apparent.

Plasma is [tcp50st30] definitely 1080.

There is only one HDMI on receiver [ it's a 222K] and the Tv HDMI input was never touched.

Beside receiver resolution settings, is there any others I should be checking?

That would be nice, though since it took three trips for the techs to install this one, [trying to fix the guide/pixellation issue] [ I'm not sure what the big deal is about receiver replacement, anyone with knowledge about this feel free to chime in here] I'm not sure getting another one would be very easy. The techs indicated they did not know if the receiver they replaced was new or re-furbed. I guess it is a crap shoot... So would Dish send me a new one, or would I have to go through the same install company I've been dealing with?

I went into the tv's settings and made some adjustments, so it is better, but still is not spot on like receiver #1

No,
Don't have a blueray, just a player that upconverts to 1080, and I would think that is not accurate enough. [?]

What callibration disk? I read Disney's WOW is suppose to be good, the S&M disc more difficult to operate, and not much better [ although pricier]
