Anyone know how the Cancellation Fees work with DirecTV? I emailed them and asked what the Cancellation Fee would be. Here is the respone I got:

"I have reviewed your account and I see that you activated equipment on 9/10/07 and at that time you agreed to a two year programming commitment. If you will not maintain the minimum program requirements we will be charging you an early cancellation fee of $480 for advanced products or $20 for each month not completed."

So which is it? If I canceled on 8/10, would it be $480 or would it be $20 per month for the 13 months left - $260.

I have an HD DVR and a standard DVR if that makes any difference.

It is $20 a month for every month remaining on your contract.
a few people before oct 07 were on a 12.50 per month. after oct 07 it jumped to 20 (Like Fonzie jumping the shark)

That's really poorly worded. It starts out at $480 ($20 a month for 24 months), but is really determined on a "$20 per month remaining" basis. Your $260 is accurate for 13 months left.
