Cannot get AM21 from Directv

After several calls this week....

First off I had to explain what an AM 21 is/does to everyone I spoke to. Nice. :nono2:

Operator #1 'I cannot order it; I need a manager to order it. Someone will call you after it is ordered.'

I waited two days...no call.

I called back and spoke with Operator #2 to check the status of my order.
operator #2 'I do not see that it is ordered. Let me investigate. <I wait and wait, then he returns> We stopped shipping those units about 2 or 3 weeks ago that is why I cannot see it on my order screen. You will have to buy it yourself, but I can give you $10 off/month for six months for your bother.' Total call time = 45 minutes.

Anyone else get one recently from D*? I ordered one off the 'net. Of course, it cost me $70 including shipping.

Yeah. I got one about 3 weeks ago for free. Reason was I was replacing a broken HR20 that had OTA capability with a HR21. I asked to be transferred to retention to get it done. NO real problem at all.
I ordered one through DirecTV.com about 3 weeks ago.

Reading IS a skill
Where did you order it from on directv.com? I don't see how you can just select an 'AM-21'. I see 'To Upgrade to HD DVR.' Did you do this within the last 3 weeks?

Log in to your account and select the "My Setup" tab up top. Than on the right side select "Kits & Equipment".
I got one for free last week as part of a replacement of an HR20 by an HR21 from DirecTV.

Ditto. My HR20 was replaced and I talked them into also including an AM21. I got it about 3 days ago and hooked it up this morning. They said you could order them from Directv, but normally it costs $50. That was the credit they put on my bill ($50).

Well with a 20-minute call, I managed to get mine for $27 (D* agreed to split the difference) since I lost OTA when I upgraded from my Samsung SIR TS-360. Sure, I was hoping for free, but at $27, heck, even $54 (which I was willing to pay), it's worth it!

+1 here, too.

It took a while to get the CSR to understand what it was/did.

I was placed on hold several times, even asking to talk to a supervisor, then she came back and said, "oh...I found it...and it's no charge."

I had it 3 days later.
Yeah, I figured if I had the HR20, and it was D* that "forced" the swap, I would certainly expect the AM21 gratis... But since it was my choice to finally join the MPEG-4 world, I really did know what I was getting into... Knowing that, I knew it might be another $50, but that's the name of the game. That's why I was Okay with the "split the difference" approach.
