I have a C31-700 cable box, and I need to attach this to a Westinghouse HDTV. Unfortunately, the TV has a DVI video connector, and the C31-700 has HDMI, so I cannot pass audio and video together on a single cable. I have a HDMI to DVI adapter on the TV, and the video signal is coming to the TV with no problem. I cannot however get the audio to work. The TV takes two analog RCA connectors (for left and right speaker). The C31-700 outputs digital audio.

Even when using adapters that are digital coax to RCA, I still get no sound.

I do not see a menu setting in the C31 to turn on the digital audio output, so I assume it is always on?

Any ideas on why this might not work?

You need the Composite Video/Audio "dongle" cable ....

This will provide the RCA red/white analog audio signal for your TV.

Not sure what digital-to-analog audio adapter you're using, but that should work too. Be sure to disable "DD5.1 Audio" in the C31's Audio Setup Menu.

Thanks for this suggestion in any case, but this solution plugs into the 10 pin port on the C31. I wanted to find a way to plug to the digital audio port and convert that to RCA. I thought I had the right converter for that purpose.

Does the digital audio port on the C31 even work? Maybe it is just cosmetic?

Yes, the digital audio port should be active all of the time. You need something like this ....
