Hey, all just decided to go with D I like it. But I thought the Omaha locals were in HD. When I turn to channel 7-1 it says searching for off air antenna 771 but I noticed there are like 3 channel 7's in the favorites list. Do I still need the antenna hooked up I thought the local hd channels wouldn't need a antenna. Other than that I am pleased with D. We got the big remote works great. I like the XM Music plus we now have everything bundled with Qwest which is nice. I also have Sirius as well so we are set. BTW we had been with E for about 8 years or so. Would appreciate any suggestions before I call D.

Sounds like you have OTA enabled. Do you have an OTA antenna connected? That's the only way you'll get the XX-X channels.

The channels in your guide that have call letters listed are the DirecTV MPEG4 HD channels.

In my market, I see
SA3 (KCRA NBC SD - delivered by DirrecTV)
KCRA (KCRA NBC HD - delivered by DirrecTV)
3-1 (KCRA OTA - from the antenna I have connected to the OTA port).

If you see something to the affect, you should be able to disable OTA and just have 2 channel 7's instead of 3. Make sense? :)
It sounds like either your antenna is not hooked up or you don't get channel 7 over the air.

There will be three channel 7s if your market is served by HD locals and you have an antenna setup.

The one called by its call letters (like WABC), that would be your HD local over satellite.

The one called by two letters and a number (like IA7), that would be the SD version of the same.

The one called by 6 letters ending in "DT" (like WABCDT) and with a "-1" at the end, that's the one from your antenna.

If you don't want to see them all in your guide, you can set up a favorites list.

Ok I figured it out last night I do get the local channels in Hd. so now I have them programmed in. I am a bit disappointed that our local weather channel from 7 is not included but still get on the ota. Plus our my 42-2 still says searching sat signal I thought that was in the package but will double check. So I think everything is fine now. Max

Read the message a little more carefully, it's not searching for satellite signal it's searching for off-air signal. DirecTV doesn't carry any subchannels, they'll be in the guide but you need to have an OTA antenna attached in order to actually receive them.
max1,

Welcome to DirecTV!!! :welcome_s

Just a quick note about the "-1"s.

Radio Enginerd, Stuart Sweet and Jeremy W are bang on right about your locals (and usually bang on right about anything they post :)).

A note about the local RSNs and the -1, though. For me, my local RSN is on channel 641. The HD version of that channel (coming from the satellite) is channel 641-1. Just to be clear that that '-1' is coming from the satellite and not your antenna.

May all your HD be glorious!!!
HD?......................Hell I would streak naked up the street and through the quad if we could get JUST ONE LOCAL CHANNEL (Bismarck, ND)
After you get comfortable with the guide, you can go into the setup and find the option to suppress SD duplicates. Cleans up the guide a bit and makes it simplier for the wife and kids.

As someone already noted, 42-2 would be coming from OTA, not satellite. For OTA, there is nothing to be "included" - either you get it or you don't (based on signal strength from your antenna).

But when you set up OTA on the HR2* receivers, it actually pulls the channel list from the satellite out of a database based on your location - it does not actually "search" for the signal. So you might have OTA channels in your list that you can't get I (based on OTA signal). You can remove those channels from the list via one of the OTA setup screens.
OP, you get 5 locals in HD

CBS- 3
NBC - 6
ABC -7
CW - 15
Fox -42

Also note 42-2 OTA is The CW... this can be found on channel 15 on your DirecTV guide.
ok thanks guys i figured it out yesterday so now I do get the major channels in locals and have them programmed in. I guess I was disappointed that our local weather channel 7-2 is not in package. But I still get it through the small antenna hooked up. Other than that just working fine my only thing is I wish D would add the auto tune feature to the dvr not everything i want to watch i want to record overall the picture is great and when I was watching cubs game last night thought hd was better than E's as well. Max.

Don't be disappointed. They don't carry anyone's local weather channel (and they likely won't until 2013).

It is hoped that DIRECTV can work something out with The Weather Channel.
