Well, I noticed that Nov. 7th it looks like 0xEB is new firmware available. I have curerntly 0xE3 that I upgraded to on 10/21/06. Anyyway, did a force download by hitting 02468 during reboot and the screen shows "new firmware found 0xE3"...it then proceeds to download, etc. When I run the Setup sure enough it is 0xE3. What's up ? Why does mine not see 0xEB ? I'm in Atlanta.

Thanks,

It has not come to the eastern part of the US yet.

That's what I was wondering but it is Nov-11th...the release by Earl shows Nov-7th. I thought the roll from West to East was a day...not 4 going on whatever. :(

Oh well.....if anyone has a heads-up when East Coast will see let me know.

Thanks.

Get use to it guys. On the R15 side it can take 3-4 weeks for a new release to run through the country. You had it good when every Wednesday you all received the same update. Not so any more. Updates become less frequent and take longer to get. That's just the fact of life in the DTV world.

The release is slower this time. Word is that it won't be released nationally until Monday.

As far as frequency of updates, it will slow down, to be sure...but comparing it to some other box (R15 or whatever) is not a good predictor at this time...we are still VERY early in the developmental cycle. We have been told OTA by Dec 1, and that is looking pretty good if not before. (Which would mean another update in around 2 weeks)

The one thing that's sure is the roll outs will be slower to cross the country (unless it's an emergency fix) as D* is being cautious. These observations are sort of a summary of what I have been seeing Earl say, and he has been very reliable to this point with his inside contacts at D*

In fact, he said the Monday launch is not even a given, considering there have been a few hiccups (noted here) with West Coast boxes that worked fine until they got the new download, though I have no idea how many.

I've been an H20 supporter since the beginning. After two months, though, I'm seriously beginning to wonder if these things will ever be 100%. They had HOW long to test before the release? Seem everything they think they've fixed something major (BSOD, Partials), it's still broken along with a new problem.

Then again, for quite a few of us, the old motto seems to be holding true.

You get what you pay for

Given that TiVo is not what 6 years old... it is not 100% (it is a lot closer then the DVR+ line though, I am not saying that)

The HR20, hasn't even been out 3 months yet...

And it's pretty typical for *all* receiver updates. Updates on the DirecTivo's I remember could take a month or more to roll out to everyone. Just the way it is.

I don't know Earl - I think it is a fair question since at least when the HR10-250 shipped its basic functionality (you know, reliably recording HD content and playing it back) worked....

The HR20, as you point out, has been out 3 months and still can't get that right.

Heck, when the SD DTV Tivo shipped dual tuners didn't work, but basic functionality did!

This box could be so much more than the HR10-250 but until they get the basics working, I wouldn't compare it to a Tivo.

Come to think of it, it would be nice to have the guide download available via broadband. The receiver, upon initial boot, could send a DMA Specific request and have all the info downloaded much quicker than it is to wait on the data to come in over the stream.

Huh? It would probably be better if the freggin guide were stored on the HD. Then on initial boot....Presto, you have the entire guide other than what may have been sent over the SAT while your unit was rebooting.

Let me think..... What would be a more difficult change to the existing software?
Store a copy of the guide data on the HD and upon boot reload that from the HD as opposed to the SAT...or...code and activate NIC drivers, a TCP/IP stack, a respectable firewall and a network host server to do this via the internet. Man, that's a tough one for me.

Considering the fact that there is clearly already a working TCP/IP stack on the HR20, there isn't much more work to do. And you should know that storing the guide on the HD instead of RAM isn't as simple as it sounds.

Take into consideration that the HR10-250 was SEVERAL versions after the first DirecTivo box. TiVo and D* had plenty of time to get the box right, years in fact, before release. D* only had one model's [R15] of research to go on prior to the HR20.

I don't think comparing the HR10-250's first day of release to the HR20's first day of release is even fair.

Given what I'm reading in the release issues thread, I'm thanking my luck stars that I DON'T have the latest update . . . :nono2:
